I just bought this truck and I need to get new tires for it, the tires are 285/70/17 but from my lurking, to run those I need a lift right?

So I'm trying to figure out what lift I have. I know it has bilsteins in back and possibly a little 1" white block on top of the leaf spring stack.

    Also first post!

Gunna need better pics than that for identifying the lift type.

What color coils, what color shocks, get us pics of the front shock towards the top, and the bottom perch, get us pics of the rear leafpack where it meets the axle, get us pics of the leafpack and count how many leaves are in it.

    Welcome to TW (as above)...

As for the lift, can you shoot a couple of detail pics? like capture as much of your front springs as you can, being sure to include the top mounting, and also a shot of the u-bolt area (rear axle leaf mounting) along with a bit of the leaves as well...

Prolly wouldn't hurt to measure from the center of each wheel (front & rear) to the bottom of the fender-arch, so some guess as to "how much lift" could be made...

Looks like a nice ride, and understanding what lift you have may help you to calm-down that cupping on the front tires before you burn any new tires too

    Thanks for the fast responses!

I'm used to e30 forums taking a bit to respond :p

I will take more once I get out of work I'm tentatively planning on getting 255/80/17 as long as these methods are 8.5 width or less

I would but it's currently in a very sad state but I'm in the middle of building my part stash for a 24v M50nv swap to use as my commuter car. After I fix the trunk area that got ate by my little brother driving my Dads lifted 84 pickup (solid axle fo lyfe) into the back of it.

Looks like youve got 1" blocks out back. Hard to tell what kind of shocks you have up front, maybe 5100s or something with some springs that provide the lift. Truck looks level, so im guessing youve got about 3" of lift up front.

Something to note, your upper ball joint boot on the passenger side is torn and in very bad shape.. you might take a closer look at these and see how the ball joints look. If theyre in good shape, pack them with grease and reboot them, if they are not in good shape some new ucas might be a good investment

Was going to mention. That. Looks like 5100 bilsteins around fronts are just to dirty to really tell. Also your leaf pack looks like OEM.

So 3" lift possibly up front with possibly Billy 5100 all around with a 1" spacer on the leaf pack out back.

With that said do you guys think 255/75/17 would rub at full articulation?

Also dealer I got it from is going to fix the ball joint issues and I have the parts in the back seat.

If it is 3" then u have aftermarket coils up front with 5100s as well...5100s alone wont go higher than 2.5

So then possibly a 2.5 lift in front?

Could be 3" with 5100s and ome coils.
Are there circular paint marks on the coils, like a green on one and a blue or white on the other? If so most likely stock coils.
Do they have a tag on them? I wanna say ome lift coils do.... But those can be taken off

Im no expert... Maybe someone can guess better based on u having stock upper control arms and looking at your boot angles

The shocks look white to me or it's been a really long week.

Whatever size it is, I would recommend getting some aftermarket UCAs. Anywhere close to approaching 2.5" or higher it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you replace the stock UCAs.

Looks like the front bilstein 5100s are set on 2nd or 3rd perch.

Count the rings on the exposed body of the shock below the spring perch
Also take a center of the hub (wheel) to bottom of fender.

I'll measure after I get my new tires today, also if I drop my 5100s to the bottom perch would it help the UCA issue?
