This is going to be an unconventional build thread, think of it as more of a remembrance thread to my 14 DCSB OR as well as my midlife crisis I had thinking I needed something "More"... We will get to that later as well as a slight dedication to my late father.

I have been a lurker on TW since 2014 but never thought to document my "progress" on my 14', so I want to do it right this time and add as I go so that I have something to look back on once I get my 19' where I want it.

It really all started back in 1997, when my dad picked up a brand new AC TRD Off-Road in Red. I Loved it, as a 7 year old boy I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. We had so much fun. Camping, fishing, hunting, wheeling, shooting ect.

It was then that I knew I had to have one of my own, but at the age of 7 this posed a problem. No Monies :rain:.....

Fast forward to the spring of 2014: I had a "good" respectable job at the time as a branch manager at Wells Fargo Bank, I drove a Civic SI and loved it. But I felt that something was missing.

I contacted the closest Toyota dealership and the hunt began. At that point I thought I was searching for a used DCSB, but my options were limited and used was expensive for what it was, used. I took the plunge and Purchased my very first BRAND NEW Truck, all on my own and it was such a great feeling. However I had no idea the rabbit hole I'd be jumping into... (And I blame most of you here on TW for that :quickdraw:).

The day I took del, Brand new Super white TRD-Off Road DCSB 4x4 with 4 miles on the clock, man I love the smell of brand new.

    20140723_234259061_iOS_zps1dfi4chr_692ba5a7653e774aebab3546eb2d78daf968b316.jpg

Took it out to sycamore the next day with less than 100 miles on her and Dented my factory "skid plate".. I knew a lift was needed but wasn't ready to cry my money away yet.

A week later I derped the wheels, Badges, and front Emblem and it got me by for a while but I still wasnt happy.

Went up north in December with the girlfriend and got a tree, of course she wanted the biggest one we could find so we fit a 16 foot tree in the bed. That was fun

    20141211_000011816_iOS_zpserteurns_2fc81e37bf84f06b780a8099d4d14d9c0a6d2010.jpg

Took me a while but a few months later I added a lift/wheels/tires, Stubby Antenna, a 50 in curved Light bar, HID Headlights and Fogs, and eventually ditch lights.

I really wanted either Icon Stage 4 or Kings but couldn't justify the price at the time so I went the cheaper route.

For Lift I added a 3" spacer in the front, A single AAL in the rear, Bilstein 5160's.

Wheels/Tires 17x9 Black Rhinos, and 285/70/17 Cooper Discover ATP LT's and was very pleased, but still desired more.

After that I conquered Arizona, butcher, sycamore, payson, pinetope, sedona, everywhere.

I even let my girlfriend get her muddy, red rock isnt fun to get off though.

The aftermath, she did good . Dont mind the Christmas lights on the lightbar...

Then Tragedy struck in my life, my dad lost his battle with liver disease in February 2018 and I had to sell his Tacoma, with 298k on the dash it had a good life but wasn't cost effective to restore it to its former glory.

The last thing I had to move was his 1986 HD Heritage Softail, this was the moment that I realized I no longer wanted a Tacoma, as I thought of him every time I drove it anywhere.

    20180209_183323974_iOS_zpspqucgyvv_f7eb24f68d138b78a885fc33547e2401a2b0ebf5.jpg

As I business owner in Sales I THOUGHT that I needed something flashy, and I had made a decision on what I was going to get. I blame it on being a "Mid life crisis" but in reality it was just my ego getting the best of me.

Here she is the Day before I traded up in upper Sycamore before enjoying one last romp, she looks real good here.

    20151128_183036842_iOS_zpsyl9z0qgi_5d13e21b518979b09aeb5a092378c6fc0ebb2da2.jpg

Traded in for a Brand new 2018 IS 350 F-Sport on August 18, 2018, White on Red Leather. This car was fun :burnrubber:.

    20180819_154232968_iOS_zpste0lpdgh_d363365a50e07575724b80d407a2ec666563c52f.jpg

HOWEVER, I could no longer do the things I enjoyed and began deeply regretting my decision.

Exactly 6 months later I found myself talking it up with my buddy Tony over at Toyota catching up on life, ect. And then I decided to "just look" at what the Gen 3 Tacoma's had to offer. So I drove down there and 2 hours later handed in the keys to the Lexo and Drove off in this Beauty.

A Brand new Cement 2019 TRD Off-Road, Premium Tech/JBL with TRD Skid Plate, OEM tonneau cover, Blacked out Exhaust tip, and black side steps (cant decide if i hate them or not).

Welcome back, trucks are nice and a lot less speeding tickets.

The intake isn’t going to do anything except cost you $400. Save it for the other mods.

Thank you! Yes agreed, although I somehow managed not to get a ticket in the Lexus :turtleride:

You're right, I had an AFE on my 14' and i mean I felt like it did something. But probably Placebo effect more than anything..

I got a kick out of your post top to bottom, reads like my own back and forth and similar mods, traded for a Mercedes, lasted six months in it and back to a 2018 Tacoma Concrete. .... I wonder if this car/truck cycle and back to truck is something lot of us do. I will never drive a car again. You made a great choice IMO in the gen 3 taco.

I ended up installing the K&N Blackhawk cold air intake and love it. Sounds mean and aggressive.. Also added about 2 extra miles to MPG arounding me off at 18 vs the 16 I was getting. upload_2019-2-26_8-25-31.jpg

I’m driving a 2019 Cement Tacoma as well, it’s definitely a head turner.

Thanks for the feedback, what'd you pick that up for price wise?

And yeah, Cement is easily the best color option IMO; other than white. But I was bored of white. You have a good looking truck man

Thanks man, I'm going to have to look into it some more. Sounds mean on the video in the link you sent, honestly I've never looked at K&N before, I've always had AFE or Takeda. Is the throttle response noticeably different than stock? AFE/Takeda always sound good but never really noticed anything. I felt the throttle lag was reduced with the AFE BOX on my 14', but wasn't sure if it was due to it being a box style intake system or not.

Kinda, I’m pretty sure their all about the same. To be honest I just enjoy the sound it adds to the engine (it’s beast compared to stock).... I’ve added a magnaflow exhaust since than and it’s a prefect but, not exaggerated combo. Here’s a better shot of the engine compartment. It’s a pretty good size intake.
