Oil Overfilled?

So I let the dealership do my oil changes, and today I decided decided to check my oil level, after I got done washing the truck. I found it to be a bit less than an inch above the top dot in the stick. Now I'm not a mechanic, but I assume that is pretty overfilled.

My question is, is that enough that I need to worry? I had the oil change done months ago, so I doubt it's too pressing (yes I know I should have check it the day it was done), but is there anything long term I need to worry about here?

Also how much overfilled do you reckon it would have to be to read that far over the top dot?

 

In all seriousness, drain some out, a little at a time, and measure how much to bring it to level.

That is how much it was over filled.

Change your own oil next time.

 

I believe bottom dot to the top dot is 1qt.
Also, recheck your oil level and do it on a flat surface. Pull the dip stick out, check both sides and let the oil in the tube drain for about 5 min, then recheck. If still too high, drain.

 

shouldnt have to double check a dealership, if you do you need to find a different place...

Disclaimer: this is true on most vehicles unless you have the huge powerplant motor thats in 3rd gen, or a lawn mower or smaller 4 cycle engine.

My recommendation is to take it back to the dealer and have them correct the oil level and make sure you get documentation in case you have engine issues down the road. You are probably okay, but I would in the future change the oil myself or find a better shop.

Also, if you take it back to the same dealer, check the level yourself before you leave.

 

Is it showing you a picture diagram? No it's just stating low is considered 1.6 quarts above full.
