Mainly a winter question. I've only switched from Park, and to be perfectly honest, I'm too lazy to Google it, or look in the manual.:anonymous:
So, have you done it at high speed and lived to talk about it? :burnrubber:

You can switch into 4 high on the fly up to 62mph in the 2nd gens. Not sure if its any different on the newer trucks

And for the 100th thread, Toyota suggests to switch into 4hi no faster than 62mph.

But personally, if you’re able to safely go above 50, I don’t think you should be needing 4wd.

Every truck I’ve owned has the “kerchunk” point when engaging 4WD, not all the same. I like to stay away from it. My CJ was best switched in reverse. My Tundra at about 40 with foot off the gas. My Taco feels really smooth across the whole range but again I engage at a constant speed.

I chose 65 on the poll, but technically it was 62. I'm in a 2nd gen, and 62 is the highest speed the truck allows. If i'm doing more than 62 the light just flashes and it doesn't shift til I slow down. I do not do this regularly, I just wanted to see what it would do shortly after I bought the truck.
