    Can anyone tell me what these things are under the front bumper? 1 on either side. They are not bolted in at all and can be completely removed by hand.

    They are the first line of defence, of sorts. Things (rocks/branches) that would otherwise go past this point and damage important components (like that CV shaft) by the wheel will instead hit this bracket thing. And as you've already found, it's easy to replace.

    There should be a bolt holding it in. Somebody remove the bolt? I am also told they are to extend the front crash protection from a off center front impact. There should be a bolt in it though.

    There's supposed to a bolt (m12 I believe) in there. I think they're called a radiator crash support.

    It's called a frame auxiliary crossmember extension.
