forgive me as I have never dealt with a recall. I am taking my truck in for the blower motor recall and they say it should take most of the day. I live 2.5 hrs from dealer and need to get around town. Is it out of the question to ask for a rental while work is done. I feel since it is a recall issue that I should be compensated?? School me if I’m wrong. I asked on the phone but was told to take it up with the person assigned to the work order tomorrow. Looking for advice before jumping into the shark tank.

Rule of thumb is, if the repair will take more than a day then you will probably get a rental. Just a couple of hours you can take advantage of the dealerships courtesy ride.
Now, each dealer does the courtesy ride differently, so ask about that beforehand. Mine will take you where you want to go and if you need to get somewhere else as long as it is within reason, will pick you up and take you there, and bring you back when your vehicle is ready. Now you can't just be hopping all over town, but they are pretty nice about it. Some will take you to one place and pick you up from that place and thats all.

Dealer I deal with gives Tacoma/4runner loaners, for any work over 4hrs. Also with recall work, wash, detail, and full tank of gas.

    What he said.

What na8rboy gets is rare and almost unheard of unless you're friends with the owner or it's a luxury car dealer.

I never got a full tank of gas with recall work, but with every service they always offer a courtesy wash and vac interior. I usually pass, but one time with the Rav4 I let them wash it because it was really dirty and I was really lazy.

I believe on recalls, there should be no issue on getting a loaner. I'd probably call and ask ahead of time, though.

isn’t the blower only a 30 minute process? i read that somewhere....if true, then just wait since you have a 2.5 hr commute......most dealers have a 10-20 mile radius for their shuttle....if that is the case, then call in advance and request a loaner and explain the driving distance....or request how long it takes, then decide if you can wait....just discuss with them and see what happens

They also own a Lexus dealership, and do the same there. Learned my lesson, of not going there (either one) with a full tank...:D

I think if you bellyache politely, they might set you up with a rental or loaner. Tell 'em you got a critical work meeting, or dying grandmother, or whatever. Ask 'em nicely to accommodate.

They quoted me 1/2 to full day. I was doubtful and asked again and they confirmed. Sounds like a lot but I don’t know. I discussed loaner on the phone and was told to discuss upon vehicle drop off.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
I just had my second service done and when they checked for the blower recall, I was in the clear. Curious, do you have auto climate? I have a 2017 with auto climate with no recall.

Mine took all of twenty minutes. I didn't even get to finish looking at the new trucks on the lot.

Do you have an appointment time, or are you just coming in? If you are just coming in then that may be why they are telling you 1/2 a day or more. If you have an appointment time then I don't know what their reasoning is. Maybe they are telling you that in case something does take longer.

I don’t have auto climate. I went the cheap route. Kinda wish I would have sprung for heated seats. Oh well.
