I need some advice or backup or info and knowledge on this..ive got a 2018 double cab short bed 2.7 2wd auto trans with a leveling kit, TRD gold/bronze bead locks (fake I know) with 285/75/16s (33s). I’ve got a dirt bike in the bed and probably 100lbs worth of gear and stuff in the truck. I’ve driven 2000 miles like this at interstate speeds from Texas to NC and now heading back. I am averaging for all of those fill ups a whopping 14.3 mpg!!! I mean wtf. Can anyone explain this to me?!

You’re running 285’s on a 2.7 liter at high speeds.

You're confused about how a 4banger on 33s with a dirtbike in the bed doing 70-80 can get 14.3? I'm surprised you're doing that well.

Are you correcting your mileage to account for your increased tire size? Your truck's mechanics thinks it's still on 30.6 inch OEM tires. Multiply mileage by 1.078 before dividing by gallons to get the right math for 33s.

Yeah. You're making a little engine work hard. Tires kill mpg even on the 3.5
How fast are you cruising too and how many hills?

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
Hauling weight+bigger more aggressive tires=low mpg’s. Your little 2.7L is working really hard to push thoughts tires. I’m assuming each tire weights close to 60 lbs so there’s that.

Yeah sure I'll explain it. 4cyl, AUTO, 33s, lift, traveling above the ideal speed for something with the aerodynamics of a toaster oven. That cover it. 14 is pretty good for all the ways you've attempted to defeat it's efficiency

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
^This. You have four cylinders running hard to spin tires that 3" bigger then stock. Not to mention the 300 - 350 lbs of gear and the wind resitance of the bike (not much I know, but it's not helping). I'm thinking your doing fairly good.

Worth noting that pickup trucks are EPA rated stock and with an empty bed. Obvious I know, but that's about what this thread should have amounted to.

Try driving downhill more. And a tailwind helps too.

285’s suck on the V6, can’t imagine how awful it must feel on the 2.7l

265/75/16 or 265/70/17 are the most optimal size tire above stock for these trucks period. Not to mention those heavy 285’s will wear stuff in your drivetrain out quicker over the life of the vehicle.

Drop down to 265/75/16 P-load rating and you’ll get 3mpg back easily
