The general rule with heads is if you remove them take them to a machine shop to be checked for cracks and straightness especially when you're dealing with the warp prone thin aluminum castings that Toyota favors

    hmm. Odd.

Could just be a leaking gasket. Or O ring on an injector.

If its an air leak, and it certainly sounds like it is. They can be hard to track if they go away when warmed up because most of the monitoring isn't functioning on a cold engine in open loop so it'll never mark it as lean before it has a chance to close itself as it heats up. You can always spray something flamable around the noisy area and try to find the leak that way though. Could be something as stupid simple as a plenum gasket or throttle body gasket.

That'll do, be careful, have a fire extinguisher ready if you're gonna go right off with the starter fluid haha. I've been known to use my propane torch without being lit.

Ditto, but for shits and giggles I bet either of us could take 5/7 of those tests and pass without prep, only two of the low and mid level tests are stuff we wouldn't know entirely and could learn plenty fast.

Leak down is a solid way, make sure you do it when the engine is stone cold and don't use a HF leakdown manifold (they're less than trash)

checking your gaskets and O rings is free..other than time. Id tear it apart and look. Can't hurt. If you get new intake gaskets they are stupid cheap.

Owning multiple vehicles is like that. haha several hundred per vehicle is needed all the time.

The plenum gaskets are metal and so is the improved throttle body gasket so you can reuse those if you opt to buy them

    What zane said.

Metal gaskets unless you fuck them up and bend them or put a ding in them can be reused.

Should also mention that 4runner I was working on in Florida that had the rough idle and hesitation turned out to be a dirty MAF. Idk if you have cleaned yours or not yet

Got to off-road sort of today for work. Busted up the mountain in a foot or more of powder to get to a sculpture to do some filming and recording. Was fun.

Yeah was super pretty out. Calm before the next wave of weather. Been snowing like a bitch here. Was fun busting through all that though. Couldn't hardly see most the time due to it coming over the hood haha
