What's going on everyone. I'm heading out to Anza Borrego to shoot some wildflower photography with the wife. I was wondering if the community knew of any sweet primitive camping sites that doesn't take too much off-roading skills to get to and has some shade in the process for during the day? We have a roof top tent if that's of any help. Thanks!

I went out to Sheep Canyon, it was pretty cool. Can get busy though. Fun little trail/road to get back there. Not sure about shade really.

Almost anywhere in AB is sweet and primitive. All too easy to pull off anywhere, setup, and have all the 360 degree view to yourself. But, having shade is another thing. Best to bring a canopy if you're planning on being in one spot for a day or so or try to find a rock overhang with some shade, but those are sketchy in my opinion. Have a great time!

    Just the basics
Look up Croms thead. He has done many trips to AB and you should be able to get some information there. With recent storms and one right now a lot of places will not be accessible due to water flows.

I love how the beginning of this thread (appears to be about 2011), photos are all those antiquated truck tents and typical tents...maybe some shells. Now it's tactical camping heaven. Fun times! Great sites. I will post as I am able!

    Hiking Death Valley (Feb 2019)

Before it even began, the trip was off to a rough start. See, we'd planned - if you can call deciding to go on a trip just a few days prior to departure, "planning" - to leave two weeks earlier, but inclement weather caused us to push the trip back. Even so, the weather report was iffy just a few days before the new date - something we decided we'd ignore so we could get out and explore.

Check out the first two days in part 1 of this adventure:

...As we made our way into the hills, we eventually turned into a wash and behind down into a hidden valley, simply following tracks from visitors that were few and far between. And before us, the colors were suddenly amazing. I let out an audible "wow," over the CB - Ben and Zane still a ways back - and stopped to capture the situation.
