    Hello,

I had my factory speakers replaced with JL Audio C1 speakers. I also installed a small amp behind the head unit.

The rear speakers and the passenger side speakers are fine. The drivers side door and dash speaker have static on them and they cut out. It's not all the time. Seems to be mostly when it's cold out or after the truck has sat for a few days.

We've already swapped out the amp, but the problem persists.

I checked with the installer and they think it might be due to the Toyota aluminum wires from the head unit going to copper wire on the new speakers/amp.

Has anyone had this happen before?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Sounds like a bad connection in the wiring. Every time I’ve had something similar it’s because there was a bad connection behind the dash with the wiring harness or a bad connection at the speaker. Check those two areas first, if it still persists the connections on the speaker itself may be faulty, see if another driver does the same thing after swapping it out.

Frustrating I know, I hope you get it figured out.

Thanks for the reply. I will check for bad connections this weekend. What does the above mean? What's a driver?

    Thanks again,

    Steve

    Hey Steve,

Sometimes “driver” is used interchangeably for speaker. Sorry for the confusion, the idea was swap out the speaker if the wiring seems solid to see if the speaker itself is the problem.

    Hope this helps, good luck!
