Sweet, i was reading a post i think in here earlier about gears.. I think 5.29s would serve you well, especially since you've got the new auto with two OD's. It would probably really wake the truck up!

Do you have 285s right now? The tall gears would really help with towing.

Grinding when selecting gears would be the syncros wearing out. Grinding when accelerating would be the actual bearings wearing out, common when youre making more than normal power. Both would require a trans rebuild.

In the short term, yea just experiment with some different weight fluid, cant hurt

In the long term, given the xtra power, the trans is just gonna wear faster and there's not much you can do about it. Find/Talk to some of the guys that boost these trucks and see what they do about beefing up the trans.

Im just a humble neighborhood mechanic :D
I dont have a lot of experience with racing or hi power engine stuff

Well thats disappointing haha, kinda expected it though, these 6spds are notorious for it. I will start running some heavy duty stuff in it and see how it does. Im thinking it could be a short-term band aid. Its always really noticeable how much smoother it shifts after changing the fluid, but the fluid doesnt ever look bad when i change it which seems weird.

All the guys that boost these trucks with a manual and are serious about it swap to a T56.. which is too spensive.. and i want to keep my 4wd so i will just have to live with it i suppose. Need to probably buy a good backup and learn how to rebuild them. Seems like it would be less complicated than rebuilding an auto

I did recently talk to an Australian on here with a hilux and the 4.0 with the s/c. He had a 5spd manual KUN26R, and he mentioned he beefed it up for towing. I may look into importing one of these if i have long term issues as i don't plan on getting rid of the truck anytime soon.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply brother:hattip:
