Well this sucks, I recently hurt my back and asked my neighbor to help me with an oil change. He said after he started draining the oil pan the oil looked redish. I think he emptied the transmission pan rather then oil pan? I’ve done my oil changes myself since 20k, there is 55k on there now. I’ve nevwr done anything other then oil changes. I have no idea what he drained. Could use help ASAP to try to figure this out and how to correct as it is Sunday and getting late. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 17 TRD sport 4x4.

Disclaimer: not a 3rd gen owner. Just measure how much tranny fluid was drained, put that much fresh back in, and change the engine oil.

He used my oil drain pan and most of it was drained but there may of been some residuals left in there. Could it be just that easy of adding what I thought was out? Any way to be sure I have the proper amount from home?

Need to pull the fill plug and over flow plug on the transmission and then use a hand pump to refill until it flows out the over flow. Then I believe you need to start the truck, run through the gears and let it come up to temperature while keeping over flow open.

Better double check that your motor oil isn't over filled too.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You caught the mistake and that’s the miracle. You’ll get it sorted out. Hey, at least your neighbor isn’t color blind, too

He hurt his back, ever been in back pain before? Youd have your moms sisters cousin help you because of the pain. Back pain is no joke.

Maybe just pour what was drained into a milk jug or whatever to see how much you need to put back.

Measured out 8 cups using this, may be a tiny more from residual oil in container. image.jpg

You need to do some research before starting that truck . You could ruin that tranny not knowing what you are doing . Read up .

I got away with it for years until one day I grabbed her plastic one instead of the glass one. Brake cleaner + plastic = no pussy that night.

On a positive note....I got to keep the measuring cup as a consolation prize.

I would start by adding 3 qts of fresh ATF then follow the instructions on the link I posted. You'll need a pump, some ATF, a paperclip and sockets.

It's pretty easy. It looks complicated when you're reading how its it's done, but once you get started it's a cake walk.

Good luck, and let us know if you have any other questions

Can I just fill it with the amount I took out or is it not that easy?

Now only question is what does it mean to jump the ports with paper clip?

Just refill it with same amount that came out. That’s it.
