I have about 1300.00 in liquid cash... will have another $500 in 2 weeks.. I work LOTS of overtime.. worked 80 hours last week.. and another 50+hours this week (I can write my own paychecks with overtime. at least for the time being.).... so minus the mortgage, truck payment and bills/necessities I have roughly $500 a paycheck (bi-weekly) I can roll into the truck for mods. I want the truck to be capable offroad.

I live in Midcoast Maine. lots of snow, ice, mud, forrest trails, with soft bottoms, rocky hills but it sees a LOT of road time.. work ride is roughly 8-10 minutes... (8 miles). I bought the truck so I could mod it to see the US. when the mods are sufficient, and i've saved a bunch of cash i plan to take vacations, and drive cross country. so reliability is key. going lightweight with most of the mods.. it would be just me and my wife traveling. and to see the best scenic places, and save some dough.. camping off the beaten path would extend our trips.

so eventually looking for a RTT, and an enclosed bed for storing items/gear. I liked the idea of the gofastcampers.com setup but cants really justify $5700 plus the $1100 white glove service... and a drive to them (SD?), and back would cost just as much as the white glove service when all is said and done..

eventually all of the mods mentioned will be done.. its just a matter of time. this is my taco as it sits now.... minus the cali raised ditch lights (had not got them yet)

since then i had ordered the $140 pro grille (coming friday), and the pop n lock kit from members of TW.. I also forgot the mention I had the howqling lower control arm issue (TSB) taken care of at the dealer. as well as the transmission reflash TSB (hunting gears on an incline) done as well.. still some minor issues with it downshifting too late (forcing brakes to be applied, and then jerky stops when trans finally downshifts.)

If you want a GFC just do it and make the drive out to pick it up the start of a vacation. It’s only a two day drive from Maine taking it relatively easy and it’s a far superior setup for camping and long trips than a RTT.

Bed mat is a great thing to have if you don’t have one. Then sliders, lift, then tires. Those full skids are going to cause you to squat about an inch. When you do upgrade suspension go for the 700lb springs an a HD leaf or Dakar pack since you want to run a tent.

Oh yeah, you won’t have it in a hurry. Just gives you more time to get over the price and keep buying other stuff for the truck.

How about less work and take that truck on an adventure. It’s very capable in stock form and spending money on mods you have no time to use won’t do any good other than looking cool parked at your workplace

Like others have said, your truck will go a lot of places no problem.
Probably once you do your suspension, going cheap the first time, you will get the bug and start looking at what other guys have. Then you will want something more than 5100s.

I hear that. My nephew is borrowing my garage right now to install a 7" lift and tires as tall as my chest on his Z71. I look over at my puny 3" lift and start jonesing.
