Hey guys new to TacoWorld. I just purchased my taco a month ago I want to know if this is a norm for everyone but I’ve noticed when going prom Park to Drive or Drive to Reverse I notice the rear gear lock makes a somewhat ‘loud’ or just noticeable clanking sound, like metal on metal. I’m assuming this is somewhat normal but I want to see if that’s something Serious or just out of the norm. Thanks!

Run it by the dealership, its either good or bad, and anything in between is at least documented so if it gets bad, it will be noted.

Maybe it's the chain for the spare tire. Is the spare tire there?

So when you put your truck in drive, is there literally zero sound? I used to drive a 03’ Yukon and it was also a rear wheel truck. Whenever I would shift from ‘P’ to ‘D’ or vice versa there would also be some sort of sound emanating from the rear. I dismissed this in the Taco as normal since it’s also a rear wheel vehicle and the sound is similar. It’s not blaring loud but it’s just noticeable. Thanks for your response!

I think I’ll do that see what they have to say. Just haven’t had the time to go down there and I know whenever you need something checked it takes forever lol. But better safe than sorry. Thanks for responding!

Brand new truck. If there is ANYTHING you aren't happy with, take it back by the dealer. No need to try and figure it out on TW.

Welcome, and enjoy the new ride.

There’s going to be all kinds of noises that are normal and they’ll drive you nuts, if you let them. Drive it until it breaks.

At around 200 miles from new, my truck was clunking/clanking when shifting from P to R and R to D.
I added a quart of transmission fluid (to the transmission) and the sound was gone for good. I then checked the fluid level and just a few ounces drained from the overflow.
