Went by one Toyota dealership and they would need an appointment to even look at it and couldn't guarantee that they would do anything. Called another one and they would look at it but would need a couple of days to drive it so they could gather information and then if there was an issue they would actually flash it with the new software if available.

Guess I'll just keep using the ECT around town. Not too crazy about some grease monkey driving my 50k truck for a couple of days to gather information. Because I know they would take great care of it lmao. That's my only gripe with this truck is that around town it just seems like you have to stay in a little bit more to force it holding the gears longer. Otherwise seems like it lugs the engine to death. Once I'm on the highway unless I'm climbing steep grades it's fine.

I questioned Mike Sweers intelligence because there is no way an engine lugging is going to get better gas mileage than one that operates in powerband. Less RPM does not equate to less fuel. My Honda Accord operates at higher RPM and gets almost twice the gas mileage. So that myth is false.

So, I went in and complained that there was hesitation when taking off and when accelerating from 30-40 MPH range. I told them that when I went to enter an interstate on an on ramp I punched it to get in front of an 18 wheeler and almost got hit when it hesitated. This instantly made them look into the transmission issue and they flashed mine without even mentioning T-SB-0062-18. I think the fear of it possibly causing an accident made them look into the health of the transmission and it showed it needed the Flash Update. I decided to not mention the TSB and make it their idea to fix it. I was going to bring up the TSB if they did not fix it or if they came back saying there was nothing wrong. LOL I will say that it is amazing the difference that it makes to your trucks shifting. Still watching the gas mileage, but since it shifts so much better I stay in the gas a lot more.

That's good to hear. The one thing that was getting me is the one dealership who actually wanted to help would need to drive the truck for a couple of days to gather data. I wasn't too crazy about that. You never know the nut you're going to get behind the wheel. Ive seen technicians be pretty rough on vehicles.

Yeah, I would not want that at all. I will tell you that I dropped mine off at 0830. I got 20,000 mile maintenance (oil change and tire rotation), the TSB Flash, and had them do a health check on the brakes. I picked it up at 1230 the same day with everything done. From my understanding they do a health check on the transmission and it will show the need for a flash update. The actual update does not take that long at all.

Yeah I told them I don't mind leaving it for a few hours I'll even wait. They insisted that something like this is very critical and it takes heating and cooling cycles to correctly fix lol.

That’s was pretty much my approach as well ... plus I told the service manager that said it might not help and was hesitant to perform the TSB, “not applying the TSB is guaranteed to not fix the issue” . He couldn’t argue with my logic and they applied the TSB without further pushback.

Is there an easy way to tell which version you have installed without having to take it to the dealer? I'm pretty sure mine is up to date as I just got a '19 but it would be nice to know the version for future reference.

I have a cheap lil code scanner that I used. Here's a before & after the flash at the dealer. Your 2019 might have different Cal #'s & if it's a manual transmission it will be different as well but you get the idea

At my 10k service, I complained about the 4-5-6 dance and how the truck would downshift into 4th sporadically on small hills and against headwinds. I have never had a "surge" or felt like I didn't have any power like others have complained about. I brought up TSB 0062-18 and they said they would take a look.

The dealer said 0062-18 has more to do with surging and loss of power in the 30-40mph range. Since I don't have this issue, they thought 0052-18 would be the more appropriate TSB. The dealer said they were very similar TSBs.

TSB 0052-18 improved the 4-5-6 dance quite a bit for me. Still not perfect, but a lot better. Acceleration feels more responsive too. I'm a happy camper.

I've hear that the 2 TSB's are actually the same file they flash for both issues.

Mine had bad 4-5-6 gear hunting also & would get stuck in gear after cresting the hill. I would have to kick the gas pedal like you would kick down the high idle on an old carburetor just to get the trans to shift.

I had 0062-18 flashed & fixed all that. The truck drives a lot better & drove great around Black Hills SD through all the mountains. Even the radar cruise control functions much better.

If your experience goes anything like mine they'll just lie and say they drove it and didn't find any issues anyway. Fortunately the second dealer I went to took care of me.
