Oil Change Gone Wrong *resolved*

Lol you messed me up man, I spent a good hour reading that thread instead of getting my ass outside first light.

Well I did the last half of the process. It didn’t come gushing out but it was a steady stream that slowed to a trickle. Does that sound normal? Thanks fellas.

About how much drained out?

 

I collected about a cup and a half in my wife’s measuring cup . That is also on the list to pickup today .

 

I can’t thank you guys enough for saving my ass, seriously. I’m gonna take it easy for the rest of the week and tackle the oil MYSELF next weekend. I hurt my back in my men’s hockey league, so it’s nothing serious just need to rest it.

Do you think I should add more? I have one more qt as I backup. I’d say I drained 2qts give or take and pumped in 3qts.

 

I would take it on a run and then re check . Go up some hills use the gears get it warmed up .

 

As long as you followed that guide You should be set

 

Its completely warmed up when you pull the overfill plug. He should be all set

Edit: not completely warmed up, but in the correct temp range for the fluid check. That's what the paper clip and shifting between gears for 6 seconds does. Puts it in the mode that let's you k ow when the transmission is the correct temp for the fluid check

 

The guide was followed exactly, I have to pick up my kids down the road from me. I did pack an extra qt and all the tools needed in case. About a qt more was added to what I lost so I should be good to go. The short ride I took she shifted fine and no error lights. It wasn’t a long ride though.

 

OK, now is the time to ask your neighbor to help you change the differential fluids...ALWAYS open the DRAIN plug first.

 

The only way I'd let my neighbor drain my oil is if she was hot. And I mean really hot.
Unfortunately, I've never had a hot neighbor, so I have to resort to draining my own.

 

if you drained 2 qts after putting in 3 qt., you were probably 1 qt low

 

Lol the wife isn't bad at all lmao, but he and I over the years have gone back and forth helping each other with various things when we needed it, so I trusted him and it was an honest mistake. I don't hold it against him, just glad we caught it before things went fubar.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, seems to be shifting a little smoother to be honest. It may have been a blessing in disguise...

Diffs/Transfer case fluids/ lube zerks and propeller shaft / oil change is next on the agenda, as soon as my back is healed up. Hoping to have it done by this weekend or next.

I think you can edit your title to the thread as Oil Change gone wrong..... since you no longer require help. The longer this thread is the less people will read in the future and you will be getting advice a year or 2 down the line.
