3rd gen Backup Cam on 2nd gen Tailgate ?

I posted in 2nd gen forum but couldn’t get a solid answer

A local guy totalled his 2017 Sport Tacoma in the front and is parting it out. I’m interested if I can put the 3rd gen handle with camera on a 2nd gen tailgate.

Are there any other parts that might be worth looking at transfering?

I would transfer the steering wheel to but the airbag costs a lot of money to replace

 

why not the whole tail gate? think the beds are the same dimensions.? 3rd gen tail gates are beefier.

 

3rd Gen tailgate won't work on a 2nd Gen I believe.

 

I thought about that but I don’t believe the 3rd gen tailgate would fit on the 2nd gen body without some cutting

I like the 3rd gen tailgate better as well, I like the flat top and Tacoma logo on it. If they fit the same I’d probably try it

 

Swap engines?

 

my engine has 300,000km on it but that thought crossed my mind. Would be a lot of work and money though

 

Just looking at photos of the two of them, if your a body guy you might be able to merge the third gen tailgate with a second gen one, get the handle and the lettering. That might be a fun project.

 

measure the width and height if the same take the mounting hardware from the 3rd gen might work. maybe a little fab work.

 

Would 3rd Gen fog lights fit 2nd gen ?
