The issue here are the anchor points. They’re recessed into the floor. I don’t know how secure you can possible make it.

    I wouldn’t trust it.

Do you have a pic with your bikes mounted up? Are those the Thule Insta-gator bike racks? The way it shows on their website is the Insta-gator hooks up to the tailgate area and you put the bike in facing backwards. This would not work for me with my 5' bed.

They are the Insta-gator racks, but you have to take the arms and switch their sides so that they are not against the derailleur. The original is held to the tailgate just like a zip tie and has nothing to keep the bike and the rack from being stolen if a thief has a good pair of loppers, but welding the rack onto the angle iron allows it to be bolted through a hole in the frame with a locknut. (The hole was already there.) This gives a solid anchor point for a chain if you want and it keeps the rack still. I believe there is enough space for the 5' bed but you would have to turn the wheel, which is not a problem for me as I have the full length bed. You could have the tailgate open if you have a longer bike like a downhill bike. IMG_3990.jpg

Ok. I understand. You have to reverse it since you are putting it backwards from what they suggest. And yes, since I have the 5' bed, I'll just have to turn the wheel. No biggie. This is great info. I can weld the rack to the bed and for further security get a super heavy chain to go through the frame/wheel. Please keep an eye on this thread. I'm going to go with this setup and I may have a question later.... Thanks!

If I wasn't clear there, I also planned on using a bed extender so I wouldn't have to turn the wheel. But since you mentioned, I may not have to get a bed extender and just turn the wheel instead.

me too, only a tiny bit of rub in the front at 3/4 turn! Even with wider rims than stock! But of course my taco needed more room to stretch so I lifted it a bit for now.

Not to be weird, but do you work for JB Hunt? see the business card on the floor board in your twin stick picture.
I only ask because I work there and recognized it.
