Help with some stock wheel problems

Hey guys I bought some American racing atx chambers for my 03. I bought 15's to put 31x10.50's on. My stock rims are 16's and have at least 25k left on the tires so I'm going to run the tread on them a bit. The reason for the new rims was the stock ones have two rims that the paint is just beat up on. I don't want to sink anymore money in them but I'd like to at least paint them so they don't look so rough. Has anybody painted their rims themselves and liked the results? I just didn't want to make them look worse than they do. I didn't know if it will run bad should I wet sand them? Thanks for any tips.

 

paint them. lots here...including myself have painted the stockers. clean/sand real good and use a good primer and paint. prep is the key.

I'm seriously considering painting mine also. I like the style of my stock wheels, but there is something on them I cannot get off, and I prefer a silver look, or unpolished aluminum look instead of chrome.

 

Prep is the key to any paint job. If you are going to use rattle can, build up light coats to prevent running.

It can be done and look good if done right.

 

That's what I figured but didn't want to make them look worse. I'm going to have them balanced with the wheel weights put on the inside so I can sand them without the weights getting in the way. What type of sand paper or grit would you use? I bought the atx's in 15's so the BFG AT T/A's would cost much less and still fill the wheel wells up nice. I came across the new rims for 250bucks in the box new but didn't have center caps I just could pass it up. So long story short I really wasn't ready to spend 680 more bucks for tires but what to get the stock rims looking sharp. So what I'm picking up sand really well/use a primer& and apply light coats. Will I need to totally remove the factory paint or just get it scuffed up smooth and dirt/pock mark free? Thanks again everybody
