I built a quick shop table using an old door (solid plywood with solid wood edges). It was a pretty heavy door and so far working great but I'm running out of room on the top and want to put in drawers.

I'm at work and not much to do so I drew up this MS paint picture on how the table is constructed. Very simple.

I'm going to remove one of the top 2x4's to open up one side but I could use some ideas on how to frame in some draws. Working with table saw, chop saw, and skill saw. Nothing crazy.

So I'm looking at an easy design that made a box that attached to the bottom of the table but the draw will need to support weight. This design will but a lot of weight on the sides which will be attached to the top which will be screwed into the top of the table. I'm thinking about using 2x4's, ripping them down a bit skinnier but still thick enough to drill some screws into it and drilling them directly to the table. Mount the rails and mount the draws.

I'll use a brace accross the bottom and back of the two 2x4's...

I'm still learning wood working and I feel like a caveman. If someone has a better idea, I'm all for it.

I built one years ago, using a welded frame to support a solid door. I have a shelf a few inches off the floor. Wish I had provided for drawers. I doubt that screwing into the top will support much weight and don't want to use bolts. Will watch this thread for ideas.

I havent added it yet but plan on a shelf on the lower 2x4's. I'm doing one drawer to one side to allow stowage of taller items on one side. I'll be sure to let you know how I figure out the drawer when I get around to it. I have to work this weekend through next weekend so it'll be a while before I can get to it.

I'd put up pictures but it looks like ass. It was going great at first and everything matching up but I was ripping 4x4's into "2x4's" for the top. I had to go to home depot and get the caster weels and figured, I had the measurements for the lower 2x4's, so I had some 2x4's cut at home depot.

Apparently a 2x4 is 1.5 x 3.5 and what I was ripping down was 1.75 x 3.5 so my new 2x4's didnt fit flush. Still worked but it looks like a blind man put it together. I wasn't looking to win a beauty contest and I was just happy everything was level and sturdy as hell.
