What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yesterday I got the hoist for the RTT installed...



And today the FedEx truck dropped off a slider shaped package from 4x Innovations...

I broke my exhaust camshaft! I was torquing it back down after replacing all the exhaust valve shims and the distributor gear wasn't meshed with the cam gear. WHOOPS. Make sure you remember to pull the distributor out before reinstalling the exhaust cam! Also here's the new camshaft shipped from somewhere through McGeorge Toyota online parts.

Replaced my transmission mount, old one was just a bit worn

 

Just go buy a cheap corded one and get to cutting.

You could try it with an angle grinder, but I'm not sure if you could get the angle right to get all the way through, or without cutting something else.

Go to Harbor Freight and drop the $30 for their low end sawzall. Spend another $10 on some 14tpi metal blades and go to town. That’s exactly what I used to extract my seized cam and it worked just fine.

 

I wish I was only in the middle of a LCA bushing project...

In that case you should buy a proper sawzall as good tools are an investment.

Cam tab gussets are a dick pain (it's mostly the prep work and shitty welding angles), but they're worth it if you're stripping the front end down to replace LCA bushings anyway. But I get it if you don't have it in the budget.

Like @Reh5108 mentioned, putting the LCA bushings under a little pressure with the bottle jack and then hitting the LCA around the bushing to expand it a bit made popping mine out a piece of cake. I used a cheap ass MAP torch.

 

Driving from Tucson to Denver, taking the scenic route. Stopped for some pics of the spectacular views at El Capitan Pass. Got a good one of the truck too that really shows the new bumper well.





Then stopped for another pic of the scenery after crossing some bridge I didn't get the name of.



And stopped much later at the 4 Corners National Monument.

So with all this talk about LCA’s and bushings, does anyone happen to have a set of arms laying around that they aren’t gonna use?

For some reason I really dig the garden liner add on to the flare... (idk if they are garden liner but you get it)

 

Apparently 4 corners is a much bigger deal than 3 corners

 

Changing to depo corner lights so I moved the turn signal and had to cut into the corner lights



But it turned out pretty well I’d say, oh and I painted the grill with rattle can bed liner

 

This is where you should consider asking yourself if the boost is worth it to you then. These trucks aren't really built to handle the fueling and timing aspect of it from stock so it will always be an uphill battle. But plenty if people can get rock steady tunes done with piggybacks like the FIC

 

Love the bumper, looks better without the headlight hoops imo. I hope you got some fry bread at the 4 corners, some of the best I've ever had, might too early in the season though. Which route are you taking to Denver?

 

Already have the 7th.....no ping and AFRs are fine. I simply want to add water/meth. That’s all. Shouldn’t have to throw the 7th in the garbage because the FIC is marginally better at doing the exact same thing.

 

Installed a trailer hitch on my '03.

 

Tinted (most of) the windows on my truck last night. I am not super happy with the cuts they made for the hardware, but it did save me literally hours of work templating them out, so I can't complain too much. They are also making good on their screwup (didn't include the proper back glass kit), so that's a good thing. I went ahead and used the excess materials to tint three of the four parts of the rear glass, think I may have made a mistake going for 5%.
