Among the many other reasons to avoid that area. And I say that as a #909Kid

same. I went to UCR, and spent at least one weekend a month at March for about 6 years. Don't plan on spending much time there, unless I'm passing through.

I’m going to Moab in late April. I’ve been there twice in July, and it was so hot I just wanted to leave ... and I wasn’t even riding. Of course I’m from coastal California so I wimp out over 80-85° F.

Of course I’m heading to St George/Hurricane next week and they’ve had so much rain that some trails and the road out to GB are unridable/drivable. I was there 2 years ago this time and it was PERFECT. So no guarantees with weather any more. Taco content: new freebie tailgate pad. No camera view and poor tailgate latch access, but the price was right. Short bed with Tyger rollup has plenty of room.

I know. GBM and Holy Guacamole are my 2 favorite rides out there. Down south had a really wet winter this year, so everything is pretty wrecked. Moab isn't much better.

People in Salt Lake are starting to get itchy.

Say hello to the newest member of the family. SB4.5... Now I just need the trails to dry up a bit so we don’t tear them up too much :D

The SB150s are nice. I probably would have gotten that bike if it were on sale. This one was plenty $$$ even at 30% off. Although my prior bike was a Specialized StumpJumper Pro hardtail so the SB4.5 still feels plush. I like to climb for the cardio so this should suit me well.

Questions for you Utah riders- I’ll be in Springdale the first week of July. It’s a family trip but I was hoping to sneak away one (or two) mornings to ride. I know it’s going to be hot so I have no problem hitting the trailhead at 6am.

What are the best and closets trails to Springdale, where I can get 2-3 hours of good riding?

    Thanks.

Guacamole is a great mesa slickrock ride and is super close to Springdale. Probably my favorite trail for a sunday morning stretch before heading for home. get trail forks though, because trying to find the little rock cairns they use as tail markers can be tricky on this trail sometimes.

You could also hit up Gooseberry Mesa. You'd have to bail at about the half way point and retreat due to the heat, but the north rim is a great and scenic ride! Park at the Windmill TH then ride -> Windmill -> Bowls and Ledges -> North Rim out to the point, then ride it in reverse or take the green fireroad back. The last little bit to the overlook is rated red, but it is mainly because of this 1 rock roll than can get you if you lose faith.

My other favorite thing to do is grab the bike and ride through Zion up to Sinawava and back. If you go at like 5 or 6 am, you can catch the first light and it will still be nice and cool outside.

Did I read somewhere the legendary city of Santa Cruz was having land accessibility issues?

Yep. I did CA 3 times in my life. Can't say there will be a 4th...unless the money was damn good, and it was like Humbolt/Shasta county.
