Easier way for jacking truck up??

I agree the jack is not perfect, but for the price its the best I could find.

I dont seem to have the problem of being under the truck to lower it, maybe my long arms vs t-rex arms are the difference?

Here is how I mounted mine inside the truck, I have gutted my access cab area and installed a custom shelf. That helped a lot.

 

best to have some short pieces of 2x6 along with the jack

 

I don't think one can find the perfect jack for all scenarios. I have carried a floor jack in the past and had it sink into soft ground. The 3 ton safety bottle jack isn't perfect, but I see it as the best compromise (just my opinion).

Fair point of caution. I am just naturally cautious when vehicles of mine are suspended in the tair with missing tires.

Yeah mine is sitting in my garage cause I haven’t figured out where to keep it safely and secure. I have a bakflip with a locking tailgate lock.

You need a portable compressor. Instead of changing it in a dangerous spot, put in some air and drive some where safe to jack and change or a shop and let them fix it. I have a

$91 viair 88p portable compressor kit (12V, 120 psi, forup to 33" tires)

viair 88p just for that reason.

 

I didn't realize I was starting a debate on this particular jack. I have never seen one like this and thought it would be a decent replacement for the stock one, which is a fair jack, just very slow to raise the vehicle. On the side of the road, I would like to get the job done as quick as possible. I have a floor jack at home, but don't really want to carry it in the truck all the time for a what if. I had an old bottle jack at home as well, but it finally died. I was thinking along the lines of another bottle jack and was just thinking this one may be good because of the safety lock. Much like a jack stand. Just my 2 cents.

 

It has been mentioned that holding up the safety handle while opening the valve to lower the jack is a scary situation. I've never seen one of these jacks, but I've seen the type of jackstands that are made like this. It seems like you could make a piece like pictured below to hold the safety up while using a long pipe to turn the valve. I'm sure the jack manufacturer can't provide such a piece, because some idiot would leave the piece in there, get squashed, and then sue the company. Bonus points if you can make it so that it slips onto the end of the pipe and can be inserted without getting under the truck.

 

Make it out of steel and put a magnet on/in the end of the pipe (which I assume is the handle that releases the jack...??)

Yeah I took the tire to a tire shop and they said the leak was from the same spot. A second plug would have fixed it. It was getting dark and cold as f*** here in NJ. I just wanted to get it done.

look at the Viair.........direct battery connection is much better than DC type plug in....

The 300P IIRC is the one I bought.....a few bucks more than the lesser models
