My 255/85/16 rub when I stuff em. Too much Castor I think. Run anything remotely harder than mall crawling and it'll rub.

Do you even know how to read? Just because a tire can fit in a wheel well and you can turn the wheel while not moving and clear doesn’t mean a tire will fit or not rub.

You have less clearance on the cab mount at ~1/2 turn, under compression, than full turn on level ground. The full turn clearance issue is with the front of the stock UCA.

 

I’m not sure how skinny jeans and man buns fit into the conversation but if that’s your jam, you do you.

I think what you're missing is that many tires will fit while the suspension isn't being compressed. Drive up a 12" ledge and flex the front end while turning, I believe in that instance you will rub. The statement of "won't fit without rubbing" implies that the tires will rub in practical off road scenarios.

Congrats on getting them on though, looks good!

Not starting a debate or defending the other poster, plus me and you have discussed this before, but I have stock suspension w/Tacoma PRO wheels (better offset than OR wheels) & 285/75/16's and have wheeled extensively (quite often actually, with several other members here)

Ok, I am new here but not in life, so just so you know where I’m coming from, no I don’t crawl up rocks just for fun. I just retired and I’ve been doing it for the better part of the past thirty years in all manner of off road vehicles in some of the remotest parts of the country, in the military and for a living as a law enforcement officer and search and rescue. Either to get to someone who’s life depended on it or in the process of enforcing the law. Forgive me if I’m not impressed by his credentials. He lost me when he started up with his “mall crawler” bullshit. Don’t kiss someone’s ass just because they can type shit on a keyboard. You might be the biggest bad ass that ever walked or you might be a twelve year old on your moms computer. Either way, You have no idea who you are talking to and everyone is pretty much equal on internet. I’m more impressed with common sense.

 

You can probably take it down a notch. My comment has nothing to do with being a badass or royalty, but everything with knowing Joe doesn't wear skinny jeans. He may have a man bun though so I can't comment on that.

You're right, I don't know many people here personally, but I do know who's been a member on here for sometime, and which members are active in the community and have helped others along. I will also for sure take the advice of long term active members, that's kind of the point of these forums, to help pass knowledge forward.

That's awesome that you're a military law enforcement search and rescue officer, but that's not relevant to why your tires may rub at full lock and suspension compression.

You've kind of blown this whole debate out of proportion.

 

I think you need to take a step back dude. Everyone here is trying to help everyone else out and a lot of us have been around the block especially with these new 3rd gens and we have seen a lot of good and a lot of bad. Having been active member on this forum for some time it's obvious that very few trucks are actually the same. I can say that the vast majority of people running a 285 have rubbing issues in some capacity and to varying levels. We have seen like setups have different results, again due to various reasons. People use their trucks differently, drive different roads, use different wheels and suspensions etc. Sometimes people need to go out and get a CMC while others need to do some heat molding. Again 99% of the time some modification is needed even if only minor and not everyone is willing to make even minor modifications.

I cannot in good conscious agree with the advice given to a new member that contradicts the majority of experiences on this forum to include my own. Part of that is because of so many variables involved. As mentioned above many of us consider "no rubbing" to include the entire range of motion of the suspension from full droop to full stuff in every turning direction. The last thing we want to see is a member come back with issues because they weren't given the full picture. All I am trying to do is give the OP and anyone reading this thread the full picture so they know what to expect and if they run into issues they already know what needs to be done to correct it.

We have members fitting 37s and even 40s on these trucks with 3" suspension, the point being you can fit whatever tire you want depending on your tolerance levels and what modifications you consider acceptable to make.

I think it is great that you have no rubbing with your setup for the roads you drive, but that doesn't directly translate to everyone else.
