I recently upgraded from a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport to the 2018 Tacoma SR5 (Both AT). I haven't made any changes yet and wanted to see if anyone else is experience weird gear shifting.

I know the two vehicles are 11 years apart... With that said, the 2007 Tacoma shifted gears at lower RPM's while it seems the 2018 seems to ride a lot higher on the RPMs before shifting gears. This becomes really annoying when cruising around 35-40 mph and the truck idles really high for a sustained period of time.

Is this a new feature that I am overlooking? And.. is there a way to fix/revert this feature (or is it worth fixing?).

Thanks, and I really appreciate the input. I'm interested to see what others have to say.

That’s interesting. Most owners of a 3G complain about the transmission shifting too soon and lugging the engine.

My advice to you is to give it some time. Not because the truck will change, learn, or improve, but because your driving style will adapt to the truck. It takes some time, but I think there is more to be said about your driving style adapting to the Tacoma’s throttle map and shift points, than those things being changed or resolved through other means.

Not an ideal situation, but it’s what worked for me.
