Gonna order a 2019 Tacoma Sport, access cab, probably around May. Only real options I want is Barcelona Red, AT, mud flaps and bed cleats. Since I am ordering, what should I hold out for the price.. MSRP is gonna be around "$35,700." TTL around $38000. What can I reasonably expect for a final price? I have saved for a few years, and will put $20,000 down on the price. I have a set monthly payment that I will not go over. Just wanna see what kinda deal I can get.

Forgot to mention it'll be an Automatic. (Ducks)

Depends on how hard you are willing to work at it . Some dealers wont hardly budge and some will move a lot .

Just pay what your comfortable or walk away. I hate bargaining with the dealership and I’m sure I have left some money on the table in the past but never really worried about it. If it’s worth it to you that’s all that matters

Invoice is a good, fair target. You might have to shop around to get it at that price, but fairly easily doable done right.

I think at a minimum getting the OTD price under MSRP is a good starting point (depending on your local taxes, of course).

I'd recommend waiting for the 2020 tacoma. Not long now and it'll be about the same price but with more goodies. Just my .02, I'd wait

I wouldn't even consider dealer financing,OP should get pre approved by his own bank then start talking bottom dollar to the dealer. With that much down, getting approval at a decent rate should be easy.

I hate when they try and pull that shit. Interest rate, terms and purchase price are what matters. Oh it’s only 600 a month for 96 months

Gotta agree with the guys above, bank not dealership financing. You are so far ahead because you made the sacrifice to save that large down payment. The dealerships have financing folks who make a small fortune because they have the ability to lure you in like a moth to a flame.

That's the plan. Already talked to the bank about getting pre approved.

Why does everyone say not to use dealer financing? I went in pre approved from my bank. The dealer had better interest rate so I went with them.

Or is that just part of your negotiation tactics as another option?

Put simply, yes. You can negotiate like a cash customer at that point, you don't "need" them so are free to walk if they don't meet your terms.

Not sure about pricing on the 2019s, but I commend you on your choice of model, body style, and color. :D

    1. Go to different dealerships and see what they offer you. Negotiate price first. Take pictures of everything you can so you have records to go over. When negotiating price the dealer will tell you that there are differences from this to that... records in print help clarify that.
    2. Have your own financing already arranged and have it with you, but don’t tell them that. When they ask how you plan to pay, be vague. Say you don’t know...some cash, some financing.
    3. Find what you think is the their rock bottom price then offer even less. For example, if after visiting several dealerships you think 35k is rock bottom, then go to the sale manager and tell him you’re ready to pull the trigger today if they’ll sell the truck to you for 34k. He’ll probably say no, but he will come back at some kind of price. He might say can’t do 34k but how about 34.5?
    4. Once you agree on the price, they will try and recover some lost profit through financing. See what they offer you. It will be high. Tell them they have to do better. They probably will not match your prearranged financing. Tell them you have your own. Then they will probably want you to use their financing and have you refinance it through your bank. Tell them no way Jose, they can set it up with your financial institution. They’ll say you gotta go to finance to do that. Go.
    5. Negotiating starts over for financing. Stick to your guns. You’ll be told this is Toyota’s lowest rate. You’ll say you got you own financing, use that. You’ll probably be asked if Toyota could beat your institutions rate at some point and would you do it? Answer, depends on the rate? If you’re happy with the numbers, agree.
    6. Extended warranties. Gotta negotiate or decline. I decline.
    7. Taxes, license, and document fees. Watch out for hidden fees like transportation, filing fees, etc...some you have to pay, some you shouldn’t pay.

Then, if you have the balls: WALK OUT. Tell them you’re having an anxiety attack, you don’t know if you can do it and you wanna leave. They will panic and maybe offer you something else to get you to stay. My buddy got a free 100,000 warranty this way. If they let you walk, you know they are at rock bottom.

Me? I just sign after the documents look right.
