Ceiling Switch Panel?

Has anyone made a switch panel for their ceiling? I noticed there's some space behind that area I marked in the picture and thought it would be a good spot for some switches.

 

Someone was recently talking about attaching something to their roof. Depending on which cab configuration you have, there may or may not be any roof supports that you can attach to. Reg cab, for example, there is no cross brace anywhere, only the front and rear roof headers.

Best advice I can give you is first look at a roof panel for your cab (DC?) on some parts website, such as:

to make sure you have some way to attach whatever you want to put up there. If you find a location/method you are good with, second would be deciding wiring needs (where to tap, how many amps, etc) and then the wire harness routing.

 

I was thinking I could tie the rocker switch panel into whatever the lights are mounted to under the roof liner.

 

I put an overhead console in my access cab taco you could probably put switches in.

 

What's that console out of?

 

@Yo_Hec could you make it happen? There are screws for the map lights. Perhaps another anchor point for the rack you already have for the 1st gens?

 

If @Yo_Hec made something like this ^ that tied into the map light screws I would definitely buy one.

It’s made by ARB for FJ Cruisers. I had to cut it a bit and bend the brackets to make it fit.

Looks like it’s no longer available on Amazon.
I think it was like $185 or something? Maybe more? I think with the ham radio I put in it was around $500 total.
I had to replace the review mirror with a glue on one.
It has two LEDs in front and two in the back. Each set has their own switches. There’s a third switch for all the lights. I rewired that one to turn on my front facing camera.
Oh, one bad thing is that space where the radio sits doesn’t get a lot of ventilation. The radio gets pretty hot on hot days. I don’t transmit on 50watts much (low power is 27 watts which is plenty, high is 50 watts but actually measures 70 watts. I hit a repeater from 35 miles away in Baja with hills between us and the repeater) but when I do transmit on high power I have to be aware of the radio getting really hot. I might put a small ECU fan in there to help with overheating the radio.

 

I put a sunglass console in mine from a 4runner. You could easily build a switch panel where the sunglass door is.



You could also get one from a hilux surf that has a field monitor and replace that with a switch panel.

Edit ... I messaged him concerning how he did it some time back. If I remember correctly he said it was an s-pod. Was going to send me more details about installing and such but never did

I may have asked you this before but what year 4 Runner did you take that out of? I need this in my life!

 

Not show in the video is the map light. You see the square box with slots that looks yellowish? Those are OMG LED lights. :} The buttons on the ram head are for teh lights.

I work on the supply boats for the rigs. This hitch I had to bring a flotel down from Louisiana because my company is reflagging one of our boats for Brazilian
Due to the low price of oil this is where all the work is right now.
