    On the contrary, that is EXACTLY what you would do. You would call up the local PD and say that you just bought a vehicle and are concerned because you have found evidence that suggests that previous owner may have transported drugs in it, and need for it to be looked at to confirm that there isn't anything remaining.

    In order for the vehicle to be safe to drive (or even just to OWN), you need documentation that you have brought this concern to the PD, and what the PD said to do about the concern. If they give you steps to take, those steps need to be followed, and documentation of having completed those steps MUST be maintained.

    And further, you also can't SELL the vehicle without following those steps, and it would probably even be prudent, even after completing the cleanup steps, to disclose the previous use of the vehicle to a potential buyer further down the road so that they are aware of the risks of owning it.
