Does the MT come with crawl control?

Unfortunately no, just the locker and a trac. It does have a clutch cancel start which is neat.

Probably why you can't get the MT in TRD Offroad then?

They make TRDOR with a manual. I got one. When I was buying, a couple of dealers I called claimed Toyota doesn't make them. I was like, 'What do you mean? You've got 2 on your lot!'.

My '06 is a TRD Offroad with a 6 speed manual. I think the 3rd gen MTs only come in the TRD Sport. I'm not a hundred percent sure though. Anyways, the MT is becoming harder and harder to find nowadays, as opposed to the early 80s and 90s, where an automatic was harder to find. Times have changed.

With that being said, I love my '18 TRD Offroad. My truck doesn't seem to have all the issues that I've read about since I came here.

3rd Gen TRD Offroad definitely comes with a manual transmission as of 2019.

I wanted an MT but never could find one. I may trade to a MT if I can find the right one.

Almost every dealer in the Charlotte area had one, if not multiple when I was looking. Not all of them realised that they did. MT's Are alot more popular in mountainous areas. I used cars.com app and filtered for TRDOR trim and manual transmission.

I’m just happy I was able to get one! Although I was told during the test drive there wasn’t a single sales person who can drive stick so I had to park it back where it was for them too.

I waited 6 months for my 18 TRD Sport 6MT. Partially because end of model year, and Tacomas were the last model released for 18 MY. Ordered in Aug 17, picked up in Feb 18. Never found a local dealer, with any model Tacoma, with the MT. Worked out for me because I still had my previous ride. But they sure made it hard to want the MT.

My salesman called to tell me my truck was ready for pickup. I told him I would need it delivered, as I had nobody to take me to the dealership. He then explained to me that nobody there including himself were able to drive stick. I was like “yeah ok, you better come pick me up then” which he did. On the drive down I found out this was his first sale, and he had just been fired from fed ex for driving a forklift into an airplane.

I went to a dealership to look at one of the 2 TRDOR MT's they had on the lot. Walked in and told the sales guy this after some weird 'What do you hope to accomplish here' scripted pitch he gave me. He was like, 'they don't even make those', then I told him, 'yes, you've got 2 right here'. He starts typing on his PC for a few minutes then tell me he can't find them. I have to give him their dealer inventory # from my cars.com app. He writes that # down and is able to go get the keys for the test drive. Whole time I'm thinking how the whole dealership thing is a useless charade these days.

That is just a sad state of affairs right there. The customer telling a salesman what's on their lot? Inexcusable.

That happened acouple of times with different dealers over the phone, too. What's sad is that the dealership industry has to lobby state government to maintain bans on direct to customer sales over the internet. Otherwise they would be out of business overnight.

So your counsel to future potential buyers would be to do an extensive test drive, at least using your normal daily driving circuit?

    Great idea!

I like mine as well. I understand what some drivers are talking about. They can shift to soon in some situations, but that's really how they are set up to give good mpg IMO. Use sport mode or ECT mode and it will drive how you may need. I have found the more I have learned the set up I can drive it anyway I need. I am getting over 20mpg in city driving. Not bad for a 4X4.. If I want to get down the road I get in the throttle and it goes plenty fast for the handling characteristics of a truck.
