    Yes. Several times. Its not an every day thing, because I don't usually have to move something that heavy, but there's certainly no issues when I do.
    These 4-cyl engines are NOT like 80's engines.

    To want more power than you need to do a job is to want to waste money buying fuel that you don't need to waste.
    And when I say towing, I do really mean towing. If I just need to drag shit across the yard, I'll use my backhoe.

    My fuel economy is comparable to a 4 cylinder anyways if my truck were stock. If I added all the gear and armor I have to a 4 cylinder rig, I guarantee the v6 would fair better when it comes to economy. But I didn’t buy the truck for economy, especially in the case of the Tacoma engines being negligible, and the fact that I wouldn’t even be able to get a second row with a 4 cylinder even if I wanted one. I also find it funny that you’d mention the importance of control during towing, yet decide to throw 10k lbs behind a midsize truck. I guess it’s a bit off topic, but whatever works for you.

    I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in this post and assume that you're *not* being hostile, even if it seems that you are.
    Weight, if taken all by itself, isn't that big of a factor in control. The problem with specifications for things that are non-standard, is that they have to build in an absolutely enormous margin to cover all of the different possible variations that can be applied. 10,000 pounds in the form of skids of bricks is very different than 10,000 pounds in the form of a 50 foot long and 10 foot tall camper. A camper will get tossed around like a leaf in a gentle breeze, or when being passed by a bus, but not so on a compact load of bricks.

    The problem that the manufacturer faces, is that if they write a towing manual that specifies every possible variable that you need to account for, it will end up being a manual that is 6 inches thick and need an engineer to implement, so they take the view of worst possible case, and then cut the number down even more. In other words, they assume that you're going to be pulling the 50 foot camper, which is loaded unevenly, and has bicycles and kayaks strapped to the side, and they might come up with a number for THAT that looks like 10,000 or 12,000 pounds at the max, and THEN cut it way down until its in the 6000-7000 pound range and stamp the user manual with that.

    So if you ask me if I want to pull a 10,000 pound camper in the mountains, the answer is HELL NO. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to avoid something that *is* safe, just because the number is big.

    I really didn't like the adaptive cruise control and end up not using the cruise at all to avoid it. Plus had it brake hard for no reason one time. One rental clown-car I had (may have been same as the one w/TSS) kept telling me when to take a break, I took it as a challenge to go further.

    I know many people like it but I will avoid it for as far into the future as I can.
