Over the last few months I've unfortunately been spending lots of time in Southern Nevada due to my mothers failing health. On most all of my trips from Phoenix to Lost Wages, I've noticed an odd whining noise which seems to be coming from the right front quarter of my 2012 Prerunner. The noise only seems to happen when driving west-bound on I-40 and at speeds nearing 80mph.

I don't have a recording of the sound since it doesn't seem to happen consistently. I'm suspecting it has some relationship with the cross winds that tend to be found in the area. So far the only time I've heard this whining noise has been on I-40 near Kingman. Unless my truck is haunted by Andy Devine , which I highly doubt :anonymous:, my best guess is that the noise is being caused, directly or indirectly, by the wind moving through the underside of the truck. This is, however, purely a guess since I have no further data points to work with.

The only other thing I can think that might contribute to the noise would be an issue with the right front tire. The tires are 4-year old Michelin LTX's. Discount Tire hasn't found a balance issue. It's just odd that it only seems to have near Kingman.

Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? While I find the sound somewhat annoying, I can't yet seem to find a mechanical reason for it.

It's definitely possible. It's weird that it only seems to happen near Kingman and only when driving westbound.

Maybe both the wind and the outside temperature are contributing to the issue.

Make sure your rear view mirrors are on tight. When mine get a little loose they make a lound whistle noise when im travelling at high speeds while theirs wind.
