On the 3rd Gen Tacoma, the transfer case has to be removed and split open in order to change the actuator. At least the technician will be able to inspect the inside of the transfer case and check the forks, etc.

I would never actually buy a vehicle from Culver City Toyota. When I was shopping last spring, they had the least competent and idiotic sales departments I have ever encountered and couldn't even get the truck I wanted. But, since I live exactly one mile from them, I took a chance and dropped my truck off for the 5K "service", as it were. Since I had already rotated the tires there wasn't much for them to do, but since there were some weird transmission shifting going on, I asked them to do the transmission flash AND check the transmission fluid level, just to be sure. They did both and my service advisor, José, couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The type of service you get at any dealer depends on your personal relationship with your service advisor, and I spend a good half hour getting to know him and asking him as much about who he was as I could - and basically letting him make the decision to do what was needed. I wonder who your advisor was and whether your experience was typical or an anomaly. It's great that you are getting it taken care of but it sucks that you had to go through shit to get it done.

Yes, the work has been completed. They ended up cracking my transfer case to look inside, but apparently the issue was the actuator. So I've been exercising it daily to make sure its working. I'm hitting some trails this weekend and will be able to put it to the test
