    good evening all,
I’m getting a smoking deal on a 3 inch lift ( spacers and blocks) from a neighbor and while I’m doing the lift I want to replace the shocks with Bilstein 5100’s. My question is do I need shocks or struts because I’m seeing conflicting pages online. Thanks in advance.... Mike

The Tacoma has shocks at all 4 corners.
The front shocks are positioned with encircling coil springs, hence the term coilover.

Wait you're putting spacers and blocks on a new Tacoma? o_O
Say goodbye to that smooth ride and get ready for something stiff

    Misinformation.

ride is only rough IF you install a front spacer inside the assembly with the spring. Ride quality is unchanged if you put the spacer on the top of the assembly.

    ask me how i know

    Be CAREFULL.

a member on this forum did full compression on a stock tacoma. there were exactly 2.5 inches of travel left in the shock. When using top mount spacers if you go past 2.5 inches you will crush the shock if it bottoms out.

The issue will be with the bump stop. only low range off-road offers a bump stop spacer in their kit to avoid this. 2" is the max i would go with a front spacer.

    Hope this helps.

    Don’t listen to the haters

Blocks and spacers are fine for 80% of people, don’t fall into the peer pressure and spend more money than you actually need to
