So I want my 3rd gen Tacoma to have more performance. The stock ecu is unsatisfying and the throttle response is almost unresponsive. It’s very difficult to keep it going up hill unless I floor it. So I looked up throttle boosters since there are no throttle bodies available. And I found speed boosters as the best option. My question is if I get the speed booster should I get the ov tune as well? Again my overall goal is to get better performance on my truck because I want to build it into a trophy truck

The 3rd gen Tacoma has a throttle body that is electronically controlled. This generation was designed for fuel economy not performance. So no matter how fast you try to push on the gas pedal the throttle body will still open at a very slow speed. So what a throttle booster does is it allows the owner to adjust the speed of which the electronic throttle opens. If they want The truck to respond fast as soon as they hit the gas pedal then they adjust it to that particular setting. A company that offers this product and was awarded best product at sema was a company called speed boosters

OVTune does everything pedal commander does and it actually gives you power gains

OV tune is the way to go.

You get increased throttle response and HP/TQ from OV. Just read the first post in his thread.

OV Tune is without a doubt the way to go. I recently bought in on it a few weeks ago and this truck truly "shits and gets" with the 93 octane performance tune. It actually drives like it has a ~300hp engine instead of driving like a 4 cylinder loaded down corolla.

I gave the 93 octane mpg tune a try for a week and if the transmission had driven like that stock I would not have considered OV Tune to begin with. But after trying the performance tune I can't go back. The performance tune gets me about the same mpg as stock tune and I was definitely seeing better millage on the mpg tune. Win win

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
I have had OV tune for a year. I just updated to the 91 performance tune and holy crap it makes a huge difference. The previous versions I used (1.04 and initial 1.05) made the drivability much better but these new performance tunes make the truck feel significantly more powerful.

Have you had the transmission TSB done yet? It made a big difference on my truck. I live in a relatively flat area with no hills.

Yes I had it done and it was a little better but OVtune takes it to another galaxy. Not the same truck anymore.

For anyone wondering performing the TSB upgrade is pretty easy (assuming you have basic computer skills and a ODB to USB cable). Basic instructions can be found here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-alpha-release.495735/page-1094#post-18467047

I performed the TSB on Monday and while it is better than stock it is definitely not as good as OVTune. Also it is best to perform the TSB prior to purchasing OVTune as he generally updates the tune for versions 04B04 before the older ECU versions (04B02 and 04B03). I don't think he supports any version prior to 04B02.

The changes Mat made with the new performance tunes are amazing. OVtune is the only reason I decided against trading in my brand new truck.

    Yes, it's really that profound.

I've checked Carita and my ECU ID still shows as 04B13. OVT has said that the tune is not detectable.

As far as concern for the engine (not the question that was asked), I feel that the latest batch of tunes are probably better for the longevity of the engine. It just runs smoother and requires less effort and thrashing to do what I want it to do.
