That's how it is here in LA.
I bought my truck from a dealer in GA. They tinted the windows before I bought it.
After it was delivered to me, I went to get it inspected and the guy told me it was 28%. (Has to be 40% to be legal here)
They wouldn't inspect it. I went to a few other inspection places that also wouldn't inspect it. Finally drove up to one with my front window down and the guy didn't even check it. He just checked the emissions, took my $18, and slapped a sticker on it. Hopefully I can go there again next year and get away with it again.

It's to "protect" cops as if they don't tell people to lower all their windows when they pull them over anyway. In all honesty how is this protect protecting cops, do people just hold guns to their tinted window and wait for the cops to walk up and shoot them?

The law does not make any sense at all. If you use that logic, then people with SUVs can legally have limo tinted back side windows and do the same...

VT doesn't allow any tint on the front windows. I know a guy who tears it off for every inspection and has it re-tinted once he gets his new sticker.

MA allows 35% which is about what I have. I think it's technically part of inspection, but I've never heard of anyone actually checking it.

It's not as simple as that, but yes...on occasion they do. After making thousands of traffic stops on midnight shift over a 16 year career as a State Trooper, I'm a big believer in being able to see into the vehicle.

If you haven't walked a mile in those shoes, you have no idea.

So why not make the law for every vehicle then? Why are SUVs and Trucks able to have tinted back windows and car not? The law does not make sense!

I agree that many laws don't make sense, including this one. Remember, cops don't make the laws, politicians do and politicians are influenced by lobbying. Many laws become a compromise by the time they hit the books. Cops are just left to do the best they can and catch the flack from imperfect legislation.

I would just like the fronts to match the back
But I think even that's too dark to pass

    See my build page!
So here in VA, my truck is a "multi-purpose vehicle". I am allowed any amount of tint on rear and back windows and 50% on front. I am trying to figure out if its worth it to tint the rear and back any darker than what they are knowing my front can only be 50%. Thoughts?
