I just visited a local shop who's got some history around here and as soon as I started to mention what I wanted he knew exactly what I was talking about and said he has done many of them just like this. On a second look of the undercarriage he was completely right there is a good inch between the pipe and heat shield and another inch or so between the heat shield and the transfer case. He's going to cut that section, bend a new one tighter to the heat shield to accommodate a flush skid. I'll shoot some before and after pics next week when I have it done.

Ok just got the work done at A A performance muffler & brakes on South Broadway in Englewood, CO if anyone is looking to do the same and in the area.
The shop and staff were awesome, Scott seems like a real stand up guy. He says he's done at least 50 of these. I'm really happy with the outcome. Let me know your thoughts.20190318_081934.jpg 20190318_081937.jpg 20190318_091149.jpg 20190318_091152.jpg 20190318_091157.jpg

Considering the way it was done that price is good.

I don't, I can take one next time I'm under there but you can see where they mated the the new pip to the old section right before the merge.

Yup! that was part of the reason I really liked that. If they had done the reroute at a high angle behind the TC they would have had to cut out the Y and move it. I assume thats why the others on here went for the 2 near 90 degree bends. Yea I'll get another pic when I'm under it next and get it up here. I'll be installing my skids in the next couple weeks:bananadance:

I got quotes for $225 to $300+ for a re-route with aluminized steel pipe from the three shops in my area. None of the shops were familiar with the Tacoma transfer case re-route, which is surprising given the amount of off-road trails in the area. Nuts!

I decided to put that money into a URD Spec-U exhaust instead. Stainless steel and has the re-route built in. Bolts up, no welding or cutting.

I just had my Tacoma rerouted in socal and my muffler shop said that this would definately void my warranty. Has anyone had any issues with this ? I figured if anything ever happened and I needed engine warranty work. I would just go to the junkyard and take the piping from the cat back. But what's everyone else's opinion ?

Mike's mufflers in el monte. I paid 60 + 20 tip since it was so cheap. I also had the exhaust shield unbolted and welded on the new pipe to protect the plastic module next to the transfer case. They had the best review on Yelp and my buddy who owns a smog shop near by says they are recommended to get legit cat installs.

Our problem is that catalytic converter comes with a length of pipe and a flange that bolts to the y pipe. During reroute, that pipe and flange gets removed and replaced with piece that gets welded in. So, if catalitic fails, it cannot be replaced with factory one, and they might will blame us for f*cking with it and voiding warranty for it.

Had this done today for a BAMF TC skid. Muffler shop had the skid in hand, and it definitely didn't come out looking like I expected it to. Pretty sure it's fine, practically speaking, though. Opinions?

Oh yeah that's totally fine. They did a great job, even moving the factory flange back so it can be removed if necessary.

What part of the warranty are you worried about? By federal consumer law, they can’t deny anything unless they can specifically show in writing that the work caused the damage. Just be sure the plastic tranny control box is shielded from heat and perhaps the floor above the new pipe (I used aluminum flashing and stainless zip ties). Besides, isn't your warranty ending pretty soon anyways?
