    I have a small sailboat on a small lake in Ohio. On weekdays , before 4 pm, it's like you own the place, no more than five or ten boats out at any time. I have a end dock on a finger pier, so the far shore is only 150 feet away from my boat. I just stepped off the dock , onto my boat when I saw a blue heron on the shore. Just then, I saw a shadow of a big bird cross my bow. It was a bald eagle, looking for lunch. It swooped down and got about 20 feet from said lunch, the heron saw it and jumped in the water. The eagle swerved off at the last second, and was gone. I didn't find out until later that when eagles pick up something heavy, their talons lock closed, and they can't release their prey until they touch ground and relieve the weight of the prey. So if over water, they better be able to pick up their prey or drowned .
