    Hey All,

The above video is incredibly easy for me to understand and follow. This weekend, i'll be renting a lift at a DIY auto center on Fort Carson to install the Toytec lift kit that just arrived: https://www.bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyota-tacoma/2005-2015/bilstein-adjustable-3-inch-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks/

Even though this is for an OME lift on a 3rd Gen, can I use this method for my 5100's, or are there too many differences between the suspension systems?

I would go outside and crawl around under my cab, but its 25 degrees and blizzard-ing hard in Colorado right now.

if you are getting the fronts pre-assembled there is an easier way. check out youtube for install of Bilstein on 2017 Tacoma - no need to undo lca camber bolts. only jack up, remove tires, remove sway bar bolts, undo wiring attached to uca (anything that would be stressed when uca connection is undone, remove uca crown bolt, loosen/remove three top hat bolts (not center bolt) remove lower shock bolt, raise - push up on uca and remove coil/shock. reverse to install. If your suspension is not coming pre-assembled then loosening of lca camber bolts and other steps may be necessary. Check the toytech "how to" lift thread - other videos and info. YouTube has lots of good video on the DIY. GL.

Thank you for the write-up, that’s really helpful. I’m going to do this Sunday.

I’ll be assembling the coils and shocks myself on a press in the shop, so I’m assuming I can treat them as pre-assembled, right?

yep as long as you have the coil compressor equipment to compress the old to remove the top hat - then assemble per manufacturer instructions and reinstall.

compress the coil enough so that the top hat is fully seated -this will allow the center bolt that holds the shock in the top hat (not the three that hold the assembled unit in the uca) when torqued down to bottom out on the shock thread. You may have to attach the coil compressor hold down prongs down from the top coil and up from bottom coil to "squeeze/compress" the coil otherwise the coil compressor may come in contact with the top hat.

Avoid the spring compressor. This is the way I've always installed 5100's.
