the only thing that I remotely liked about it, it has front and rear lockers. that is it. the Bowtie on it makes it a 100% no buy for me. the guy who owned it was proud too. claiming he paid close to $50K, even though his was built exactly like the one in the link for about $44K. I didn't take any actual pics of his truck, I just couldn't.

But with a Turbo Diesel engine optional, Toyota better step up their game. Not saying this will outsell the Taco by no means. But for people who would consider a Government Motors product, they may be steered this way by more options.

The only thing that had me test drive its GMC cousin was the 2.8L Diesel for its 7700 lb towing capacity because we want a small RV. I didn't like the ride as well, the bed sides are too high, but the radio was nicer. I'm much happier with my Taco.

The DEF system on US diesels is just as complicated as the fuel system, with its own heaters, pumps, evap valves, ECU and various fault codes. I do not want this additional complexity in my vehicle. That, and having to refill the DEF tank more frequently than changing the oil.

A front locker on the Tacoma would be very welcome though.

I don't get why people try and "upsell" their trucks as being more expensive than they actually are. I had a guy try and tell me he paid $70,000 for his gasser 2017 Sierra 2500 Work truck.

    Maybe he did.

Doesn't mean he was very smart or savvy but OTOH it's not impossible.

On my TDI the DEF tank neck is right next to the fuel neck. It takes 2 min to fill the thing, not very complicated.

And everything that diesel/def touches is covered under warranty til 160k miles :)
