In-car tool kit??

    I've been meaning to build one for offroading.

    I'd like to have:
    - Full metric socket set, preferably in 3/8 drive, maybe with the exception of the ity bity sizes wich will be 1/4" drive.
    - Full metric deep socket set, preferably in 3/8" drive.
    - Standard sockets .... I think my sliders might be in standard as with some of the other crap I've bolted on. These will be subject to what specifically I need.
    - Sever different length extensions for the ratchet wrench.
    - Metric and standard combination wrenches. Maybe only specific sizes for the standard ones.
    - An interchangeable screw driver with different tips. These can be pretty compact, so I'd want everything from flat head, philips, star, and hex.
    - Standard and metric Allen wrenches.
    - A couple sizes of spanner wrenches.
    - A couple vice grips.

    - Mechanics gloves
    - Latex gloves
    - Zip ties
    - Duct Tape
    - Headlamp/flashlight
    - Magnetic task light

    I think I'm forgetting some stuff, but that's the gist of it.

    For off-roading I bring my entire tool bag from home, everything you mention here plus a torque wrench and some special tools needed in case something like a CV axle needs replacing on the trail (also bring at least one spare CV with me). So a 35mm socket, torque wrench, 4lb hammer, couple extra quarts of gear oil, etc.

    I have one of those big 30 gallon bins that I can fit perfectly between my bed rack and the cab of the truck and all this stuff fits right in there.

    its all dependant on the trip, your driving style, and whether or not you like to pull out your winch cable or not.. when in doubt.. winch it out.. winch is there for when skill, and vehicle ability are lacking, and you dont want to break stuff.. but just in case you should keep a comprehensive trail toolbag to make repairs on the trail if you have to. zip ties added onto a basic socket set, set of allen keys, and star drives, as well as a 35mm socket for changing your cv, and other bits is good to have, breaker bar is recommended (high lift jack tube works in a pinch)..... shouldnt need a puller set, or brake tools.. a torque wrench is nice, but un-necessary if you go by the "feel" and as with most trail repairs.. you should double check any trail repair when you get back to a garage, or home turf.. double check torques.. etc...
