Tacoma short bed Hi-Lift jack bedrail hack

    Tacoma World. When I lifted my truck I found out that the bottle jack would no longer work for tire changes. I bought a Hi-Lift jack, the long version, to be able to at least change a tire. Once I got the Hi-Lift jack I figured it would not mount great in the truck. I had a bedrack on the back of the truck and did not want to just lay the jack in the back because I figured it would just get stolen. I ended up taking two large, bolts, a couple of jam nuts, a rubber grommet, a drill, and dremel to make a mount that would work with a short box.

    I liked that it stayed out of the way and was hard enough to remove that I really did not worry about it being stolen.

    Here is how it held up after a year and the more detailed photos if you want to make your own. All of the hardware was bought at Lowe's locally and was under $10. basically flatten the bolt head to get it past the rail mounting nuts on the bed for the bolt that will be in the front section (cab area). Then use the jam nuts to keep the bolt in place. The rubber grommet reduced vibration, and the other nuts provided standoff for the rear bolt that had to be flattened on the thread areas to fit inside the bar. I did drill a hole through the center and used a TSA lock for awhile but it was really not needed. The bolts did rust a bit but more or less surface stuff and after several years it was not a big deal, so did the jack.     Not the greatest pic, but here's what I did.

    Just some flat bar, a little welding, and some riv-nuts in the bed-sides. wing-nuts hold it in place.

    The mount pictured has as S bend, the front mount a L bend so the top is bolted to the bed rail like this one, and the bottom is riv-nutted to the fender. Then, to create a bit of a standoff between the bracket and the inset channel on teh hi-lift, I welded some C channel to the bracket and a long 8 or 10mm bolt (iirc), with a wingnut to secure it in place.
