Hey guys, first post here. I tried to search a little bit, but figured i can just post this up for a few opinions. So like the title reads, took my 2017 TRD offroad in for 15k service today, on the phone, they said it would take about an hour and 45 minutes. Once I got there advisor stated only about 45 minutes. Cool went to get some pizza, literally across the street. Standing in line I get a phone call that its ready. Less than 15 minutes i thought was odd. So I go back to pick it up, service advisor goes over what was done and i notice that its only 12 minutes between opening the RO and RO completion. And it just seemed really fast for rotating tires, checking all fluids, lubing the prop shaft etc... So, I go out to my truck, first thing I notice, tires not rotated, RO says they also replaced my air filter, pop the cover, not a new filter. Go back in and talk to the service advisor, he comes out and looks at it and says he will talk to the service manager and figure out what they can do to make it right and i will hear from them tomorrow. I'm not far from the dealer and its not a huge inconvenience to go back there but realistically how long should this service take, i figure, to really do all it says 45 minutes was reasonable. I'm kinda dumbfounded on how a dealer could say they did stuff and clearly its not done. Basically I'm just wondering if they didn't do these super basic things that i can see, did they actually lube the prop shaft, check my diffs etc... Should i be pissed? Mostly just wondering how to attack this when I hear from them. Anybody else deal with this and what was your experience?

    Welcome to Tacomaworld

I would def go to a different dealer...

Even 2 service techs on meth could not do a thorough service in 12 mins...

That's BS. I'd mark your tires and oil filter next service.
My 5k service was a little under 1 hour. I had the dash cam rolling .

Thanks man. I've definitely lurked for a while and always keep an eye in the 'ole for sale section. And I do have mechanical knowledge, aside from cars, I spent many years working for factory motocross teams as a race team mechanic. The only reason I'm even doing this through the dealer is because well its new, its under warranty and its covered, otherwise I just would do it myself. I just felt this was complete garbage and I was directly lied to about what was done, kind of shocked actually and wasn't sure what to say other than a big ole WTF?

I found my dash cam on my seat and unplugged after my first dealer visit... wasn't happy.

When I first looked at the picture, without reading your post, I thought that the service guy probably didn't save the order properly --then when he realized the mistake just submitted and the truck happened to be ready 12 minutes after....

But if you were THERE and they literally called you 15 minutes after you dropped it off then they are full of all sorts of shit and I would go back.

Have them show you how they rotate the tires and do a complete oil change in 12 minutes. Tell them you'll pay for it if they can actually make that happen. Sit there with a stop watch and start it from when the tech saves the order and stop it when they drive it back up front. Then watch those liars squirm.

edit: shit I forgot they dont do oil changes at 5k. been in my lezlimo for too long. NOWWWW it makes it a little more reasonable. If they are just doing a tire rotation and "visually" inspecting the rest then I could see that being a possibility. I am skeptical, but its back in the realm of a possibility. I will say, that even if they did rotate the tires properly, they didn't really inspect anything closely.

The order mentioned the airfilter as well. That should be pretty easy to verify.

Sometimes, I dont start a ticket until after the service is complete or nearly completed. I get busy yo.

Seriously though, rotating takes only a few minutes with a lift, and prop shaft can be lubed at the same time. If you do it regularly, I doubt it takes more then a few minutes. Fluid checks are just the visuals under the hood, they dont check diffs or tranny fluid.

Edit: remember guys, oil changes are at 10k intervals

Double edit: diffs are on the list. My mistake.

Big thing, mark your tires, make sure they are rotated, otherwise they will open the hood and close it.

I'm not saying they didnt screw you, I'm just saying inspecting takes a few seconds, and the actual work that is done can be done at the same time it's on a lift.

Really depends on the dealership honestly... the Toyota dealership I sold for wouldn't let a tech halfass a service... great services and treatment can be a link to resales. Brent would have skinned someone who didn't do a proper service at his dealership. He would fire them on the spot
