He shows up from time to time and drops a gem like this, then either makes a couple comments and disappears or poof gone if it has instant traction

A lot of people use the 2wd OR for desert prerunners and the locking diff comes into play when launching boats and such

As a California that literally lives in the desert and within walking distance of a lake, this is accurate.

Really ? A 2 wd with a locker is false security especial with tacos having traction control driven LSD already. The improvement is not sufficient enough. Might as well drop down to an sr5 with 4 wd for less money. . . 4 wd with active drive wheels on front is infinitely better and safer in off road conditions.

The best boat launching vehicle I ever had was my 2004 4 runner with a low range but without the locking the center diff engaged.

That's awesome. I'm not biased at all towards what other people have or haven't driven. My truck does everything I want it to in my price range, which is why I chose it.

ORs with 4 wd ? My OR 3 g still has atrac, 4 wd and rear locking diff. I think we’re talking about two different terrains. We live in Maine we’re even on road with steep terrain can have a foot of mud or snow or be ice coated. 2 wd anything is pretty useless.
Flatlanders with more solid surface , different animal

Not what I was trying to say, just seems that most (not all) 4wd third gens never leave the pavement at all haha

Just funny you mention this, ironically I live where the everything is flat and I see ALOT of 4x4s that hardly leave their driveway let alone see dirt other than our windstorms that blow it on them .

Everyone's situation is different, as long as they're not drinking and driving or destroying public places, I could care less if they went off-roading in a Pinto, as long as they can excavate it when they're done.

Ok, I hear you. They’re often the first vehicles to leave the road too in snow. People think 4wd is some how a substitute for the right tires and common sense. ;)
