I get what your saying now. i didnt think the auto tranny would exert that much forward force when a truck is coming to a stop. i thought you were saying that there was axle wrap from the back force of a downshifting auto tranny (similar to a stick when down shifting) back froce from down shifting would be the same force as the brakes is what i was saying. i was picturing back force not forward force

BKeith i owe you a beer. guess im wrong:pout:

what i was saying about a truck in neutral the force from the brakes would cause the axle wrap the other direction like lifting the rear of the truck when hitting the brakes. it wouldnt actually cause axle wrap because the rear shackle would move making the rear of the truck raise.

Hey people, thanks for all your input. I feel a little better knowing what it "might" be. I'll keep you posted. Do I post to this thread or start a new one when updating?

No no (no pouting)...I just don't get it (not like your brake comments were wrong; I just can't grasp it)...I'll choose my descriptive words more carefully next time. As for a free beer, I'm in!:)

I would think the clunk is coming from the transmission downshifting when it shouldn't (Re-Flash TSB). My '09 downshifts into 1st when I'm going 15 mph and it shouldn't, causing a feeling that the clutch has just been released on a manual transmission. I need to get mine reflashed soon.

Part 2: Took the truck to the dealer. Told them about the issue. And the leaf spring TSB. They re-flashed the tranny. And gave me the upgraded springs. The clunk is what they called " drive-line lash". They said it was normal and that everyone complains about it. My mechanic said his 4runner did it............Found a post today of a guy who described the very same symptoms on his new Tacoma. Dont know where I stand.
