I can't afford this stuff, so my truck looks basic

I've trickled in a few <$100 things, mostly QOL or minor cosmetics. Big upgrades like wheels or suspension parts, however, will have to wait until the truck is paid off

No kids here, married, two well above average incomes for our area. Still don't pay for truck mods beyond basic stuff.

I highly doubt y'all are fully funding your retirement options. the maximum 401k contribution for 2019 is 19,000 and you can put an additional 6k in an IRA. Those are just standard private sector options. If you have two incomes that is a lot of money.

The important thing is TO EACH THEIR OWN.

I'll continue to drive my paid for 2011 (I did splurge on a set of 3rd gen off road wheels for $300! Had to fend off the desire for a new truck.) and dream about an early, early retirement.

I don't begrudge anyone trying to stay happy.

Cool. I will schedule my appointment soon. That will give it time for everything to snap back in place for you before you get back in a few months.

Eating out, drinking and vacations are enjoyable and part of lifes pleasures which my wife and I do occasionaly .
Making payments on a vehicle that depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot plus wasteful interest charges in not a pleasure especially if you put on a lot of accessories that do not increase the value. You are right about living beyond your means - I would rather have a truck that is paid for even though it is not "Top of the Line" and use the money for vacations and things that I enjoy. My 2 cents worth.

I'm retired, had a pretty healthy savings account (Had being the operative word) and get a reasonably good check every month. House is paid off. Kids are grown. Wife left me. My dog and cat don't eat much. My only hobbies are my truck, camping/exploring and black powder boomsticks. I have to be a little frugal with my build. I wanted a 6 inch king or Icon lift but settled for 3" OME. Things like that. I fully intend this to be the last vehicle I own so after it's paid off I can upgrade a little as things wear out.

I pimp out a bunch of hookers.

They aren’t very good looking so that’s why my truck doesn’t have a lot of mods.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I did not read all 7 pages....yet.

I think the first step is deciding if you really need a mod or just want a mod. It is easy to get sucked into the "I want" mode instead of sticking to what you really need. I am certainly guilty of that shade of gray.

I personally started selling license plate brackets. The extra I earn goes into the truck for various different mods. And I couldn't have done it without the support of TW!

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Man. This thread is spot on. I really don't get how people afford snowboards , a lift pass and all that gas. Or a motorcycle. Or a boat . Or a snowmobile. Or a quad. Or a gaming computer. Or a pure bred dog. Or going out to dinner twice a month all year. Or cable tv. Or Starbucks coffee.

Really what's the point of this thread. All those things are more expensive than modding a truck and a huge majority making a stink about this have / do those things.

Not to mention $/hrs used. Everyone's financial situation is different. But let's drop the act that you have to spend beyond your means, not plan for a future, or have inherited money to make it happen.

My entire build is want. That’s why I’d love to go back to my simple build and save cash.
