Did you have audio recording of your gear grinding. Could have been anything really.

Hmm, my 2018 has done this since day 1 and it only has 1800 miles. It doesn't grind, but it is not smooth going into 3rd. All other gears are fine. If I double-clutch into 3rd, it is smooth. I'm pushing the clutch to the floor and nothing is obstructing the pedal. I'm the only driver and it has not been abused. My 1999 had 180k mi on the original clutch when i sold it and it too was occasionally rough going into 3rd.

Overall, I'm rather displeased with the 2018. Reverse is geared too high, IMO. There is a rattle in the dash near the passenger speaker. The forward visibility is poor for me; at just 6'1", the rear view mirror is in the way. I hate the chrome accents on the steering wheel/interior components that reflect the sun into my eyes. The TRD shift knob is uncomfortable. That additional hardware is needed to prevent the bed from "spreading" with a canopy or off-roading is a heinous design flaw. The brakes were better balanced front to rear on my 1999 and 1994. The heritage grill rattles. The navigation system is awful; the entire entune system is crap - from the poor responsiveness of the touch screen to the lack of carplay - and its only saving grace is that one can use it to disable the lock/unlock beep, etc, though not that damn seatbelt chime. Lack of configurability from the factory - wheels/bed/cab/MT/locking diff/etc option/feature combinations. I hate that there is branding around the LED driving lamps that I can not remove. And theres more. If there was a Ford/Nissan/Isuzu with a MT, I'd probably have bought that instead. I expect that it will be reliable and I do appreciate that its a MT, 6-spd, has BT audio and is new.

No, the Frontier is no longer offered with a MT, at least not in the PNW. IIRC, this ended with the 2016 model.

My 2011 is grinding in 3rd sometimes. Happens once every month or so. Only once and only when shifting into 3rd. No other gear does this so I know it's not my clutching. I was told it's a bad synchro. It did it twice to me tonight. One of them I caught before I actually put it into gear (wouldn't go into 3rd). So I let out the clutch and pressed it back in and got it to go into 3rd after. Then had to down shift into 3rd and grinded (again clutch to the floor) release the clutch and then back in it's fine. So your not going crazy and I doubt it's your clutching because its happening to me too.

So mine started grinding at 8000km’s the dealer was great, they replaced the transmission. I asked why they didn’t just replace the bad synchro, service manager told me it was a new truck and he preferred I have a new transmission.

My truck has occasional clunk getting into 2nd and third, but only when the transmission is cold. Was hoping once I changed out the fluid it would dissipate but no such luck. Once everything warms up this is probobly the smoothest manual transmission I’ve ever driven.
