recently picked up a 17 off road and when at slow speeds (27,000 miles) (in / out of parking space, garage,etc.). I hear a clanking noise coming from front brake area. Since still under warranty, I take it to dealership to check out. I’m told it’s the brake pad shift in calipers. Technician says “it’s normal”. Is this correct and normal?

I think so. Especially when changing directions. There's some hysteresis in every mechanical part, my accord used to do it a lot. But it wasn't a brand new vehicle either. Maybe your anti drag clips are getting weak.

My truck does it when changing directions at slow speeds. I also looked it up and concluded it’s not a problem. Now if you were to start hearing grinding or anything else then that would be a cause for concern. I got used to it now and don’t even hear it anymore.
