I made the mistake of ordering my leer without factory installed roof rack. I called the leer dealer and they want $700 to install one. What's going to be my best and cheapest option? Has anyone attempted to install one on their own? Thanks

^^^This. Simple process to install the tracks, measure a bunch, mark, drill, seal holes. It helps to have a second person for installing the fasteners unless you have really (really) long arms.

I did it recently.. used the THule tracks just like leer would have put on there. Measure a lot to make sure that they are equidistant as the roof does get narrower towards the back. https://www.etrailer.com/Roof-Rack/Thule/THTP42.html#/ It is a one person job if you take the plastic inserts out of the bottom of the tracks and just tape them down to drill all of the holes using it as a template.. Took me about 45 minutes to install.. has held my RTT just fine :)

BTW, I asked when shopping for my Leer about adding the tracks myself. Both places told me that any holes that aren't drilled by an authorized person will void the warranty. This all assumes your shop is competent enough to recall that you didn't order tracks, or to even check up on who installed them should you have a warranty claim, and that voided warranty line could probably be fought in court, etc, etc. Just an FYI.

If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, find your local Leer dealer and they can/should install a rack system for you.

When I bought my cap years ago, I also didn't purchase a rack. Installation was free for me when I bought the rack from my Leer guy.
