Connect Android Auto to 2016 Tacoma

I have not been able to connect Android Auto app on my phone so I can access it through the factory navigation console. My phone is connected via bluetooth, and I can stream AA's music player through the console audio but can't connect to maps or waze. In AA Settings, there's a toggle "Add new cars to android auto" that's switched on, it's supposed to automatically connect my phone to the vehicle but no vehicle connection is shown. What's the trick here? The AA release version is 4.1.590943

That’s because it doesn’t have android auto

 

Well that would explain my problem...think I'll forgo the aftermarket head unit at that price.

Another option is to wait for the 2020 Tacos later this year. They will have Android Auto as well as some other features. There are plenty of threads in this forum. Search for 2020.
