200,000 Mile Club (1st Gen Tacomas)

Still looks and drives good for a 16 year old truck. Due for timing belt and water pump, have new factory ball joints sitting in the garage waiting to go on. Could use some new bushings on the rack and the little actuator from heat to AC broke. 247,000 miles and counting.

 

I bought my 2003 TT with 281,000 miles + on it. The V6 purrs like a kitten. I have no idea how many times it's been in a ditch. (from the last owners) The rt side from front to the back looks it was raced at Taladagea. The ONLY problem is the rear diff. lock does not work. I'm sure it is something simple. Nothing that wd-40 could not fix. Right? Ted

 

I bought mine with a little over 250,000 miles, and she had been absused. It actually ran great until 257,000 miles. It blew a head gasket on a mile long bridge on the interstate, by the time I was off the other side she was severely overheated, blew out the radiator and was dead. Once it cooled down I was able to start it, but it had almost no power. It was enough to drive it up the slight incline into my garage (which made my life much easier). I swapped the engine with a JDM replacement which has been running great.


My overloaded Highlander Hybrid. It pulled it no problem, but I couldn’t go much over 30 without getting wicked swaying. Needless to say we took the backroads home.

New to me JDM engine. I was a little skeptical, but it’s been a good engine. We had to swap the oil pan because it was out of a 2wd truck.

 

When you said you blew the radiator, what exactly happened? My daughters 02 4 runner sprang a leak in the radiator today and she had the radiator replaced and then the radiator hose blew off. The mechanic tried better clamps but the hoses would not stay on. I haven't got to see the vehicle yet but suspect a blown head gasket causing the radiator to over pressure. Does this sound about right?

 

Just bought a 99 v6 TRD with 224k on it. Highest mileage truck I’ve ever bought but feel totally comfortable with it.

 

The plastic part around the top hose melted some and blew the hose off. I think the head gasket had a small leak, because it would occasionally leak a little coolant around the top hose to the intake. I think the head gasket completely let loose, pushing compression into the coolant system, causing it to completely fail.

I would bet you have a blown head gasket, yours might still be salvageable at this point. When mine cut loose there was nothing left to salvage.

I have a 2003 Prerunner with the 2.7l and auto that just turned 200,000. It gets 21mpg. I bought it in 05 and it was stock except for the guy drilled a zillion holes in the air box. He lived in Baton Rouge where it is always hot. Any ideas on that mod(or murder)!?! I taped them up with Gorilla tape. i give it a new timing belt every 100,000 miles and in return I have a ball driving that regular cab like a go kart(not the one with the Hayabusa engine). One day I am going to have time to post some pics. I just moved so it's all about emptying boxes, and setting up the tools from the old 2 car garage. Yes. i would rather take a good beating but I don"t have that option. This is a great website with tons of info! I am glad my neighbor told me about ya"ll!!

 

Just hit 200,000 today, and she’s still running strong, no surprise there though; still, a hell of a milestone. See y’all at 300,000!

 

Interesting, drilling holes in the air box, it seems that would be counterproductive to the receiving of cooler air from the fender, and possibly limiting to the quantity of air the engine receives. I can see how someone might think that more holes means more air, but the physics of how the induction of air is received through the closed system Toyota developed may disagree. I would purchase a new intake box, but that’s just me.

250k miles here and still trucking on! But will never get rid of my first gen unless the money is there

 

My 98 Regular cab (Burt, the Old Man), Currently sitting at just under 254k, I picked it up at 247k daily along side my Jeep when I am home. Runs like a top, 2.7, 5 Speed, 4x4, manual everything. Around town I get 19mpg and around 22-23 on the highway.

It is a radiant red 03 that i bought it in '05 and then put the shell on. 21mpg in the city! I'm in love.

@Beater_Bimmer its a workmate shell. Just bought it a few weeks ago. Had a soft topper with a rack around it before this. Liking it so far, just figuring out if I build a rack or bolt the tent straight to it. But it’s really nice to have lockable top now and gullwing side doors
